This left-hand drive 1973 example presents in a striking combination of off-white paintwork over red leather upholstery, complemented by wire-spoke wheels - a specification that looks every bit the part on the French Riviera, where it is currently based. We're informed that the car has been very well maintained by a specialist classic-car garage and that everything works as it should. It comes to market with a Contrôle Technique valid until July 2028, and is reportedly ready and waiting to drive away. This example comes with a removable hard-top for year-round versatility.
History and Paperwork
1973 model year, left-hand drive
Located in Nice, France
Restored in 2023
53,419km indicated on the five-figure odometer
Maintained by a specialist classic-car garage
Contrôle Technique valid until July 2028
Accompanied by registration documents
The Condition
The vendor describes the car as being in excellent condition following its restoration
Off-white paintwork presenting well, as seen in the photographs
Red leather upholstery throughout
Bodywork in good order
Gentle signs of paint loss to the sills
Some gentle patina to the brightwork
Some nicks and scuffs to the red soft top
Instruments clean and legible
The handsome proportions of the E-Type remain as timeless as they are quintessentially 60s. That sleek, curvaceous frame looks fast and agile even when standing still, and here, they come to us just as neat and tidy as their designers intended. We can't spot any significant dents or dings, the paintwork is in fine overall order and there's only small pockets of patina commensurate with its advancing years.
Internally, the red leather upholstery is well-presented, instruments clean and legible and the dashboard in fine order. The carpets look in good condition, right through to the trunk, and all of the switches and buttons look in fine condition.
The Mechanics
5.3-liter V12 powerplant
Four-speed manual transmission
Engine bay in good order
Vendor informs us the car is matching number
The V12 was one of the largest engines Jaguar ever packed under a car's hood, and the E-Type took this impressive unit in its stride. 272 bhp was advertised, along with a top speed breaching 150 mph. The car became a remarkably laid-back, comfortable cruiser, howling with a sonorous soundtrack and eagerly responding to the driver's input.
This example has been very well-kept, with the engine bay in good order and a full mechanical rebuild reportedly under its belt. The driver tells us that it's a pleasure to drive, and is eagerly awaiting its new keeper.
