Triple SU Carburetors

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

Lot #245724

This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe is powered by a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller acquired the car in 2008 and a refresh in the early 2020s included rust repair and a repaint in red. Equipment includes enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, dual side mirrors, triple windshield wipers, Pioneer audio components, and a heater. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, spare parts, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.

The car was sanded to bare metal and finished in three coats of gold metal flake topped with three coats of translucent red metal flake. Additional work included replacing the windshield, rear window chrome trim, weatherstripping, front and rear bumper rubber components, door handles, and side mirrors.

The 15″ knock-off wire wheels and 195/60 Road Hugger GT tires were reportedly installed during the build. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brake calipers were rebuilt and the brake pads, rubber hoses, and master cylinders were replaced under current ownership.

The seats were reupholstered in black leather in 2023, at which time the seat foam, center console pad, door mechanisms, rear interior side panels, and carpets were replaced. A Pioneer head unit is also installed, and it is linked to Pioneer speakers. The driver-side floor pan was replaced and a rubber sealer was applied to both pans under current ownership.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 82k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. The speedometer was replaced in 2026, as was the tachometer sender.

The replacement 4.2-liter twin-cam inline-six features triple SU carburetors with K&N air filter housings. Work under current ownership has included rebuilding the carburetors, changing the electrical system to negative ground, flushing the clutch fluid, and replacing the following components:

Distributor cap and rotor

Spark plugs and ignition wires

Fuel pump

Radiator hoses and fan heat switch

Clutch master and slave cylinders

Battery and cables

Spin-on oil filter adapter

The oil was changed in preparation for the sale.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission and differential fluids were changed under current ownership, at which time the rear-end seals were replaced and the rear-end cage was cleaned and painted.

The data plate shows a six-digit production number corresponding to a 1964 3.8-liter model.

The cylinder head stamp reads 7E9042‑9 which aligns with the 4.2-liter inline-six stamps of the era.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
