This 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe is an excellent matching-numbers example of the British icon, which has benefited from a thorough mechanical overhaul and now presents in superb condition throughout. It is powered by the 3.8-litre straight-six, fed by triple SU carburettors, driven through a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 18,023 km, though this is not warranted.
Inside, the cabin has been re-trimmed with black leather, which now presents with just some very light creasing in the seat bolsters. Both door cards are in good order, as are the carpets, headlining and dashboard trim. The original stereo remains present, as does a period-correct wood-rimmed steering wheel, while all of the electrics are believed to be in good working order.
The last routine maintenance was undertaken in March 2020, where Joe Macari Classics fitted a new fuel pump, various gaskets, a replacement carburettor feed hose, and a new nearside rear universal joint. The engine oil and filter, spark plugs and coolant were also changed, before a safety check was carried out and a new tyre was fitted to the spare wheel.
The most recent MOT test was on 3 August 2016 at 17,996 km, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The wheels come wrapped with a set of Michelin tyres, which were fitted in late 2019 and are reported to have plenty of tread remaining.
Accompanying the vehicle are the original owner’s handbook and Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, along with some recent maintenance invoices and a tool roll.
This Jaguar E-Type S1 3.8 FHC is a well-maintained and numbers-matching classic sporting GT, which benefits from around £25,000 of expenditure on mechanical work since it was imported in 2015. With eye-catching looks and a strong 3.8-litre straight-six, this E-Type would be a wonderful weekend cruiser, and a charming addition to any collection.
