William Heynes Ltd is deeply honored to present what we believe to be the last surviving early 1961 UK-market Fixed Head Coupé in true barn-find condition. This is almost certainly the last opportunity in the world to discover and restore an unrestored E-Type of this quality.

The recovery of 860024 was a deeply emotional day for everyone involved. Recently recovered by William Heynes Ltd on behalf of the family of the late owner, this historic Jaguar saw the light of day for the first time since 1988. It is an immense honor for our team to have been entrusted by the family of the late owner with finding the next custodian of this car and ensuring its story continues.

A true piece of Jaguar history:

Chassis number 024, this car is one of the earliest and most sought-after "flat floor" cars ever produced by the Browns Lane factory. Historical records indicate that this particular car is of immense significance: it is believed to have served as the original factory demonstrator in 1961. Of the two documented FHC factory demonstrators from this initial phase—one in blue and one in red—this car, 860024, is the legendary red one.

The Heynes family believes that, after completing its duties as a factory demonstrator, this car was presented as a spectacular wedding gift by Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons.

In November 1961, Sir William's daughter, Mary Lyons, married Guy Rimell—son of four-time Grand National-winning trainer Fred Rimell—in a high-profile, much-publicized wedding in Warwickshire. This magnificent red fixed-head coupé is believed to be the ultimate celebratory gift that Sir William presented to his daughter on that historic day.

After its time with the family, and in accordance with the practice at the time of many famous factory cars, the car was sold to its first private owner outside the factory gates. In November 1961, number 860024 was sold to its first private owner outside of factory ownership at Haytword Autos on Torrington Avenue in Coventry.

Today, the car is remarkably complete and retains its original engine with matching numbers. Crucially, the car retains its priceless original green logbook, which meticulously documents its ownership history from that first sale outside the factory through the 1970s.

The car is currently fitted with what we believe to be a 1970s fiberglass bonnet. While this is part of its unique history, William Heynes Ltd has the specialized capability to produce a visually perfect, correct steel bonnet to 1961 specifications. Using original parts where possible, we can fabricate a replacement with the exact, authentic spot welds unique to this early production phase, as well as rebuild it to what we believe are some of the finest available, and for which William Heynes Ltd is renowned.

The only other known historical deviation is the gearbox, which was upgraded in the late 1970s to a smoother E-Type 4.2-liter unit – a very common and practical modification for driving enthusiasts then and now.

The next chapter: While 860024 now requires a complete restoration of over 3,000 hours, its soul remains completely intact. It was the family's express wish that this car be returned to its former glory by William Heynes Ltd, if possible.

As with all William Heynes Ltd Jaguars, our ultimate goal is to restore it to the absolute, correct 1961 factory specification, as we are deeply committed to preserving early E-Types and what is period-correct. We would be delighted to undertake this monumental restoration to our world-class standards and work with the new owner to write the next chapter in this car's incredible story.
