This 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster is finished in red with a black soft top over black leather upholstery and powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car is further equipped with 15” knock-off wire wheels, uncovered headlights, and quad exhaust outlets along with an AM/FM radio and R134a-converted air conditioning. Chassis 1S20479 was acquired by the current owner in August 2023, and subsequent work is noted to have involved rebuilding the quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and upgrading the ignition system in addition to replacing the timing chain, water pump, air conditioning compressor, clutch assembly, and more as detailed below. Now showing 40k miles, this E-Type is offered in Massachusetts by the seller on behalf of the owner with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, spare parts, and a clean New Hampshire title.
The car left the factory finished in Regency Red and was repainted under previous ownership. Features include a black soft top with a matching top boot along with a forward-hinged louvered hood, uncovered headlights, quad exhaust outlets, and wraparound bumpers with guards.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin XWX tires. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering as well as four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The seller tells us that the upper and lower ball joints were replaced in April 2025.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather as well as a color-coordinated dash, center console, door panels and carpets. The air conditioning system has been converted to use R134a refrigerant, and the compressor was reportedly replaced in April 2025. Other amenities include an AM/FM radio, a sliding rear-view mirror, and a locking glovebox. Wear is noted on the seats.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock and auxiliary gauges for battery voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are positioned in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.
The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 272 horsepower and 304 lb-ft of torque when new. Work performed in 2024 reportedly included rebuilding the carburetors and upgrading the ignition system in addition to replacing the timing chain and tensioner, choke cables, water pump, coolant hoses, spark plugs, and distributor cap and rotor.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller tells us that the clutch assembly was replaced in September 2023.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate lists factory colors and drivetrain numbers as well as an April 1972 date of manufacture and May 1972 date of dispatch.
