We come across quite a few E-Type Jaguars on our travels, but this one is a little better than the majority we see. We are not going to tell you it’s concourse because it’s not, but it is very nice and useable. In fact, it was driven to our premises and the only reason it is for sale is due to a bereavement, otherwise it was a long term keeper having already been in the family for 25 years. The Jaguar is finished in red with black leather, the chrome is lovely, and it is sitting on wire wheels with a very detailed and clean engine bay and boot area. All-in-all, a great looking example that does all it’s meant to do very well. It is showing two previous owners, as it was transferred between the family because of the bereavement.

The E-Type was built in late 1968 and dispatched to New York on 29/1/1969 as a LHD example finished in black with an automatic gearbox, as the production details from Jaguar tell us. After a detailed restoration it is now red, manual and RHD. The restoration took place over a number of years and is to a very high standard, with photographic evidence of work carried out along with some invoices.

The vendor has kindly provided the following information:

“Originally imported from California over 25 years ago by my father who took on a bare metal restoration and converted it from LHD to right. He was a mechanic so completed the work himself in his garage next to the house over a couple of years. He installed a low ratio gearbox for low revs whilst down the motorway and she also has the benefit of an overdrive which is most unusual for a E-Type. Like most of his projects, he finished it and really never used it much. It was in storage and he passed away over 10 years ago so was handed to my mum who also couldn’t part with it. The car sat for years in storage and was recommissioned by myself and my son whilst instructed to stay at home during Covid. The car was given a new petrol tank, and a full wiring loom and the overheating problem was solved as pipework and other items were not all in sync. Now the car can sit in the sun and doesn’t boil up, and the fan comes on. Now been in my hands and starts every time, and runs sweet down the motorway at low revs compared to others I’ve seen due to the diff ratio. Since my mum passed away, it is now time to let others get some real usage out of the car as I have many other projects in motorsport and just don’t get the time to use her.”

The vendor added; new petrol tanks and lines are fitted; 123 tune electronic ignition with App to disable on phone; engine has twin Strombergs that have been vapour blasted and full recon with all new fittings; exhaust has the USA spec crossover heat for assistance when cold to transfer the manifold heat over to the carbs; exhaust manifolds were heat coated; and set of straight through sections never fitted which will drop off.

We would like to think you get the idea of how good this Jaguar is. This is a great example and probably a lot better than a lot of others out there. At the end of the day, who doesn’t want a red E-Type that would appear to be pretty well sorted and has come from a great home?
