    UK Supplied example
Fitted with an upgraded XJ40 four speed automatic gearbox

This original UK supplied right hand drive example was built on 2nd March 1970 and delivered to Henlys Ltd. Salisbury, the first owner a Mr C D Barrett of Aintree. Having had six former keepers, the car had significant mechanical restoration work and some body repairs between 2001 and 2002 by Martin Robey Ltd. Originally a manual car it has been professionally converted to automatic transmission with the use of a modern Jaguar ‘J’ gate automatic gearbox from a Jaguar XJ40.Currently showing 12,835 miles on the odometer the car is supplied with a large history file with many bills for work and new parts as well as MoTs that go back to 1982. Presented in good driving order the E-Type in its current automatic specification makes for a great touring car.

Sold by Richard Thorne Classic Cars of Burghfield Common in September 2025. Amended seller's description below.

    www.rtcc.co.uk/car-sales/car/1970-jaguar-e-type-series-2-4-2l-fixed-head-coupe/d ...

1970 Jaguar E Type Series 2 4.2L Fixed Head Coupe. A great opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic sports cars ever produced. Few cars quite capture the spirit of their era like this model. This particular model is a UK supplied right hand drive Series 2 Fixed Head Coupe, originally distributed by Henlys, London. Presented in Old English White paintwork with contrasting Black leather interior, it has a lovely feel, and is ultimately an extremely desirable and usable classic.

Mechanically this E Type is great to drive. It benefits from a desirable 4 speed automatic gearbox conversion, carried out at a cost of £7,000, offering a more usable driving experience than the original 3 speed. The engine pulls strongly, starts reliably on the button, and the gearbox shifts smoothly. Mileage is about 120,000 with a documented speedometer change in 2000. The car has since had a top end engine rework.

It comes with a comprehensive history file, Heritage Certificate, and V5C showing matching engine and chassis numbers. Recent works include refurbished radiator, cleaned and rebuilt carburettors, new suspension brushes, front subframe repairs, replaced rocker cover gaskets, refurbished cooling fans, and new tyres. With just 6 former keepers and an extensive history file this is a well maintained and usable car that offers immense driving pleasure for a reasonable price.
