1970 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2 Roadster
Lot 117 | Global Icons: Zoute Online 2026 Wednesday, 14 October 2026
Estimate: €60.000 - €90.000| Offered Without Reserve
Desirable Series 2 4.2-liter Roadster delivered new to New York in February 1970
Documented by its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate
Retained in single long-term 38-year ownership from 1974 until 2012
Comprehensive rotisserie restoration by Byrnes Motor Trust in Sydney, Australia
Chassis No. 1R11841
The accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate records that chassis number 1R11841 was completed on 8 December 1969 as a Roadster to left-hand-drive specification, finished in Pale Primrose Yellow over Black trim with a matching Black soft top and fitted with the four-speed manual transmission. It was dispatched to the United States on 4 February 1970 to the British Leyland distributor in New York.
By the mid-1970s the Roadster had settled in Ohio, where Daniel J. Waina of Mentor acquired the car in November 1974 and retained it for the following 38 years. In July 2012, the car was sold to Byrnes Motor Trust of Sydney, Australia, and there received a thorough rotisserie restoration by the firm's well-regarded restoration arm. It was refinished at that time in Carmen Red over black, and converted to the superior European-specification triple-SU carburetor induction.
In 2021 the E-Type was entrusted to the Belgian specialist Marreyt Classic Cars for a comprehensive mechanical overhaul. Invoices on file record the crankshaft measured and checked for straightness, the cylinder head sent out for reconditioning, and the engine reassembled with new bearings before being refitted along with the exhaust, fuel lines, carburetors, and wiring. The transmission was found to have worn gears and was rebuilt at the same time, with all seals and gaskets renewed, after which the car was presented for Belgian roadworthiness inspection. The E-Type has now been in the same private collection for 14 years, throughout which it has been regularly exercised.
The car presents today much as it did on completion of that work, riding on chrome wire wheels and wearing a black top, with black leather seats, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and the full complement of Smiths instrumentation. It is offered with the Jaguar Heritage Certificate noted above, its historic Ohio title, and invoices documenting its most recent mechanical attention.
