Lot #266711
This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I 4.2 coupe is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. Finished in Opalescent Silver Gray over black leather, it is equipped with covered headlights, 15-inch wire-spoke wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, and air conditioning. The selling dealer acquired the car in 2025 and it is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, the original dash console, service records, spare parts, and a clean Texas title.
Records document front-bumper and headlight work in November 2004, boot-floor panel installation and door-lock service in February 2006, and bumper rechroming by Art Brass in 2010. A 2014 inspection report describes damage to a heater pipe and an exhaust header tube.
The 15-inch wire-spoke wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 185-section Universal Sport Redline tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Suspension work in February 2009 included an adjustable torsion-bar reaction plate and the replacement of rear springs and shocks. The brake master cylinder, booster, vacuum hoses, and brake line were replaced in June 2010. In December 2025, the Dunlop brake calipers and Lockheed brake master cylinder were rebuilt.
The cabin features black leather bucket seats, black vinyl dash trim, crank windows, and air conditioning. The speaker covers and grilles, glovebox liner, handbrake seal, shift gaiter, millboard set, and Hardura trim was replaced in 2007, and BAS installed leather seats and carpeting. Two loose console pieces were recovered in May 2025; the original dash console accompanies the car.
The wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. A Smiths voltmeter with a black bezel was installed in 2026. The oil-pressure gauge and sending unit were replaced in 2010. The five-digit odometer shows 87k miles, approximately 50 of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and Champion spark plug wires, and it was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The engine was rebuilt in 2007. The radiator, reservoir tank, and header tank were replaced in 2009, and the oil-filter housing and alternator were replaced in 2010. The radiator and distributor were rebuilt and the exhaust headers were ceramic coated in 2014. A Pertronix ignition distributor, coil, and bracket were installed in 2016. The spark plugs and jet-pump diaphragms were replaced in 2019. The battery was replaced in 2025, and porcelain-finished exhaust manifolds were also acquired that year. The V-belts were replaced and a SPAL 12-inch cooling fan was installed in 2026.
The cylinder head stamp reads 7E8982-9, which matches the block stamping and the engine number on the car’s data plate.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission was rebuilt in 2014. The clutch assembly, including the pressure plate, clutch disc, throw-out bearing, fork pin, and bushings, was replaced in 2016. The clutch slave cylinder and single-circuit master cylinder were rebuilt in 2025.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers, as well as the build and dispatch dates. Service records and spare parts are also included in the sale.
