1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 FHC
A celebrated and iconic British sports car, this Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 FHC has been tastefully modified for improved drivability while retaining its unmistakable silhouette.
It is powered by a 4.2-litre naturally aspirated inline-six, equipped with triple Weber carburettors and a tubular exhaust manifold, delivering up to 211bhp to the rear wheels via a replacement five-speed manual transmission.
The car has been the subject of multiple restoration phases, most recently including a full repaint in Mauritius Blue Pearl, an interior retrim, and significant mechanical upgrades.
First registered in the UK in 1983 after importation from the US, the V5C shows two previous keepers UK prior to the vendor’s ownership, which began in June 2023.
The odometer indicates 45,697 miles, though this is not warranted.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
This E-Type now features a series of upgrades designed to enhance performance, comfort, and style, including wider rear wheel arches manufactured by RS Panels, RS Panels Le Mans-style wing tips on the sills, a large Monza-style fuel filler cap, electric power steering, an ITG foam air filter, professionally removed bumpers, sports seats with integrated headrests, modern speakers, and soundproofing by Dynamat.
A new five-speed gearbox is fitted as well as uprated suspension.
This Series 1 E-Type is now finished in the attractive hue of Mauritius Blue Pearl, over a black leather-trimmed interior, punctuated by chrome trim highlights.
It rides on an aftermarket set of 16-inch spline drive ‘Dunlop Racing’-style alloy wheels using the original Jaguar two-spoke spinners, and shod with new Pirelli Cinturato P7 tyres.
Equipment includes a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Smiths gauges, dashboard toggle switches, a Radiomobile push-button stereo, heater and ventilation controls, and push-out rear quarter light windows.
The car is accompanied by a large file of invoices and photographs covering the earlier restoration and more recent works, a dyno printout, the V5C, a spare wheel, as well as two keys and the original bumpers, gearbox, and suspension components.
CONDITION
Specific notes from the seller include: the car has just been fully repainted and protected with PPF applied to vulnerable areas. The interior has been freshly retrimmed, with the exception of the roof lining.
The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 16 June 2023 at an indicated 45,665 miles, which resulted in a pass with no advisories.
This vehicle is now believed to be exempt from mandatory MOT testing due to its age.
SERVICE HISTORY
Recent service history to be confirmed by paperwork.
A prior full engine rebuild and further mechanical works were completed under previous ownership, with a substantial file of invoices included in the sale.
Additional recent works under the vendor’s ownership include the replacement of the gearbox and propshaft, the refurbishment of the suspension with new springs, shock absorbers, and wishbones, and the overhaul of the brakes and differential.
