This car should not be classified as a Series 1, but as a Series 1.5 per the JCNA '68 Judges' Guide, page 2, based on the OTS, LHD Build records. The Series 1 ended at 1E15888. Your xkedata.com website has also confirmed the same information in the "About the XKE" section under "Models", showing the differences between the 4.2 Series 1 and the Series 1.5. This car is a Series 1 1/2.

Anonymous..... I totally disagree. The JCNA Judges Guide is USA centric, and is not official Jaguar factory terminology, nor indeed the same terminology as used in all other countries. The colloquial term Series 1-1/2 means different things to different people, for instance in Right Hand Drive countries since I first got involved with E-types in the late 1960s we used the loose term Series 1-1/2 to refer to 4.2 E-types that had introduced the open-headlamp arrangement, deleting the glass covers, and it had no other meaning being solely to do with the very visible change, relative to the earlier Series 1 E-types.
Because of this major difference of understanding as to what a Series 1-1/2 actually means - I simply DO NOT use this non-factory term at all, but note that the JCNA '68 Judges Guide is all about the USA legislated Safety and Emissions related changes that were introduced for USA market LHD cars only - and not applicable to any RHD cars, nor LHD cars exported to other markets than USA (thus all of Europe).
I refer to these USA (only) market cars built to comply with the new USA only 1968 Safety and Emissions Regulations as being simply USA 1968MY 4.2 E-types, or maybe in a parochial USA environment, maybe just as 1968 MODEL YEAR E-types that were actually BUILT from August 1967 onwards to the last in July 1968.

'68 cars coming to the USA, as Roger mentions, were mandated by US regulation to meet what amounted to S2 emissions and safety features. Not required in the rest of the world.
