This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 roadster was purchased by the seller in 1983. Finished in red, it is equipped with a 4.2-liter inline-six and a four-speed manual transmission. The car also has a white convertible top, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, an aftermarket radio, and an air conditioning system. The seller had the engine rebuilt in 1997 at a cost of $10k, and the car was put into storage in 1998. This XKE Series 1.5 roadster is now offered as a non-running project with service records, spare parts, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.
Series 1.5 E-Types featured exposed headlights shared with Series II cars but retained Series I equipment such as a small front grille opening, turn signals mounted above the front bumper, and taillights situated above the split rear bumper. The car was originally yellow and was repainted in red prior to the seller’s 1983 acquisition following front bodywork and filler repairs to the louvered clamshell hood. Equipment includes a white convertible top, wraparound chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, and quad exhaust outlets. The left-rear bumper is rusted, and the exterior finish and trim exhibit wear and weathering.
The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured by rounded knock-offs and are mounted with 185-section Michelin X tires that exhibit dry rot. The car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, and the seller states that the hydraulic cylinders require rebuilding.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in tan leather along with a color-coordinated dash pad and a locking glovebox. Interior appointments include a sliding rearview mirror, an aftermarket under-dash air conditioning unit, a Pioneer cassette radio, and Pioneer speakers. The condition of the interior is depicted in the gallery, but flaws include torn seat upholstery and a torn shift boot, and the uninstalled carpets, floor mats, door panels, and dashboard “Map” rocker switch are included in the sale.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, while an analog clock and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 56k miles, approximately 20k of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual Zenith-Stromberg 175 CD-2 carburetors and was factory rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. The engine was rebuilt in 1997 at a reported cost of $10k. A GM-style fuel pump and aftermarket cooling fans were installed under current ownership. The engine has not been run since 1998, and the seller notes that the fuel tank requires cleaning or replacement, the carburetors require rebuilding, and the fuel pump wiring is disconnected in the trunk.
The car is equipped with a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission. The clutch was replaced in 1997. The seller notes that the clutch cylinder requires rebuilding.
