This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 roadster underwent paintwork, installation of a replacement soft top, an interior color change, and mechanical work as part of a refurbishment completed circa 1998 and was later acquired by the selling dealer in 2021. Finished in beige with a tan soft top over green leather, the car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors that is linked with a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission. It rides on 15″ wire-spoke wheels coupled with power-assisted disc brakes at all four corners and also has uncovered headlights, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a luggage rack, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. This XKE Series 1.5 roadster is now offered by the selling dealer in Pennsylvania with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, an owner’s manual, partial service records, and a Virginia title.

The Series 1.5 E-Types featured exposed headlights shared with Series II cars but retained various Series I details such as a small front grille opening, turn signals mounted above the front bumper, and taillights situated above the split rear bumper. This example was specified from the factory in Beige and was refinished as part of the aforementioned 1998 refurbishment. A replacement tan soft top was also installed at that time. A louvered clamshell hood, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, a luggage rack, and wraparound chrome bumpers are further details. The seller notes paint checking in a few areas.

The 15″ wire wheels are secured by rounded knock-offs and are mounted with 185-width Dunlop SP Radial tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brakes were last serviced in 1998, and the tires were installed in 2021.

The re-trimmed cabin features bucket seats upholstered in green leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Black vinyl covers the dash, and further details include a sliding rearview mirror, a heater, and a wood shift knob.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 55k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. The cylinder head was refurbished in 1998, and the stainless-steel exhaust system was installed in 2021.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission. The clutch assembly was replaced in 1998, according to the seller.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.

The current Virginia title lists an “Actual” odometer brand.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
