Car offered at:

1965 Jaguar E-Type SI

Broad Arrow Auctions - The Zoute Concours Auction 2026 Knokke-Heist, 09 October

Estimate USD 174 045 - 208 854 EUR 150 000 - 180 000 (listed)

Chassis No. 1E11117

Engine No. 7E4363-9

Transmission No. EJ3402

The car was later in the hands of noted Arizona-based Jaguar specialist and collector Terry Larson, from whom the consignor - a passionate and dedicated Danish collector - acquired the car about two decades ago.

During his ownership, the car underwent a comprehensive, uncompromising nut-and-bolt restoration, thoroughly documented by an extensive restoration file, together with invoices and documentation from the past 20 years. The car was stripped to bare metal and refinished to the highest standard in a very elegant and period-correct Opalescent Gunmetal, while all chrome components were replated to the same standard.

The mechanicals were comprehensively rebuilt, including the original engine with new pistons, bearings, water and oil pumps, timing chain and gaskets. The carburetors were rebuilt and polished at SNG Barratt, while the steering column and rack, rear axle, and all shafts were rebuilt with new bearings and crosses. New heater matrix pipes were fitted behind the bulkhead, the entire braking system and wiring loom were renewed, and all instruments renovated and calibrated. A stainless-steel exhaust system was fitted from UK company Classicfabs, including polished stainless-steel manifolds for better performance and sound. The E-Type also received a completely new interior, including seats, foam, carpets and trunk mat, along with a Mohair hood from B.A.S. International UK. All seals and rubber components were replaced throughout and appropriate Lucas H4 headlights fitted out front.

The restoration preserved the car's matching-numbers engine block and cylinder head, as well as its original transmission, which is included separately with the car. A number of thoughtful upgrades were also incorporated, including a five-speed transmission, sporting suspension components including upgraded roll and torsion bars, improved bushings and Koni shock absorbers, improved cooling system with upgraded radiator and a Kenlowe electric fan mounted under the original fan cover, 123IGN electronic ignition among others detailed in the comprehensive history file. The striking E-Type Roadster rides on just slightly wider 6 ½ inch chrome wire wheels, wrapped on appropriate Vredestein Sprint Classic tires for optimal roadholding.

Upon close inspection today, it is evident that the restoration work was done to an exceptionally high standard; the undercarriage is expertly detailed as is the engine compartment, and the factory correct theme is clear throughout, down to the smallest details such as the Champion sparkplug wires, period correct Lucas-style battery and so forth.

Complemented by a highly sought-after hardtop in body color, in addition to a snugly fitted correct black Roadster top and weather equipment, this highly desirable covered-headlight Series 1 4.2-liter E-Type Roadster has traveled less than 1,000 break-in and fine-tuning kilometers since the completion of its expert restoration, and is accompanied by the Spare Parts Catalogue, its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, a comprehensive file including restoration records and photographs, as well as the aforementioned original transmission, a tonneau and hood cover, period-correct road tools, two sets of keys and matching spare wheel. Ready for competitive concours d'elegance judging or spirited drives on rallies and tours, this superb Jaguar E-Type from arguably the most desirable period of the model's tenure, will surely impress its future caretaker.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
