Ended On 3/2/18
Sellers description:
This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II Roadster is a numbers-matching example that was first sold in New York on January 23, 1970 and remained with its original owner's family until 2004. An extensive mechanical restoration commissioned by the second owner was completed in 2006 and is documented with pictures and a binder of receipts. The work reportedly totaled around $60k and included a rebuild of the original 4.2L inline-six, new brake and suspension components, a rebuilt rear end, and more. Over $7k of recent maintenance performed by the selling dealer is detailed in the listing below, including rebuilt carburetors and a new stainless steel exhaust. This Series II Roadster is said to retain much of its original paint, and it is now being offered for sale in North Carolina with a removable hardtop, Heritage Trust certificate, original New York State registration cards, a binder of records and photographs from the refurbishment, and New York registration transferred to the seller's dealership.
Based upon paint meter readings provided in the gallery, the seller believes this example retains most of its original dark blue paint. The engine bay and trunk were refinished during the mechanical refresh, and an area on the hood has also received some paintwork. According to the seller, the original reddish primer can be seen in some areas on the body.
15" chrome wire wheels wear newer Vredestein tires. An older black replacement soft top shows some wear, and a new black vinyl top is included in the sale. A black hardtop accompanies the vehicle.
The interior is believed to retain its original upholstery, though new head rest foam has been installed under the factory leather covers. Cracking, fading, and other signs of age are present on both seats. New footwell carpets and rubber floor mats have been installed. The seller considered dying the seats prior to sale but decided to leave them as-is.
The factory three-spoke steering wheel has been wrapped in leather, and an original wood steering wheel is included. A crack in the dashboard is noted above the glovebox. Per the seller, the speedometer needle bounces, and the 41,023 miles shown on the odometer are believed accurate.
Power comes from a numbers-matching 4.2-liter twin-cam six, which is backed by a 4-speed manual gearbox. A mechanical refurbishment performed by the second owner between 2005 and 2006 included a rebuild of the engine and rear end. A new clutch was installed at this time, the electrical components were gone through, and the brake and suspension systems were refreshed. Recent maintenance performed by the seller included a rebuild of the carburetors, a new stainless steel exhaust system, bumper seals, an adjustment of the side windows and tracks, a new fuel pump, new spark plugs, and the repair and repaint of the fuel tank. A gear-reduction starter has also been installed, and a compression test performed this month showed 150 to 155 psi across all six cylinders.
Engine number 7R8393-9 is pictured above and matches the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.
A new stainless steel exhaust system is viewable in undercarriage photos and additional images are provided in the gallery.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust indicates that this Series II Roadster was built on on October 22, 1969 and dispatched on November 13, 1969. It also confirms the factory colors and lists the matching chassis and engine numbers.
Extensive receipts and photos of the mechanical refurbishment are included in the sale, along with an original owner's manual, maintenance chart, owner's pouch, plate, and passport to service. The original owner's sunglasses and case are in the glovebox.
