I bought this car from the original owner in 1980/81 when I lived in Orange County, California. It was a black plate California car - License # UQH325. It was originally sold in Los Angeles with primrose yellow exterior and black interior. In 1987 I took a job in Saudi Arabia and decided to sell the car to a retired military test pilot - Mr. Fagot -who lived in Long Beach, California. I have several old photographs of the car, If interested please e-mail me.

Great to see my old car again after 17 years! There must be a minimum of 4 owners, not three, as mentioned in the sellers ad. I will try to scan my old photos of the car and upload them when I get a chance.

In the above advertisement description, it mentions that the chrome is original. This is not true. I had most of the chrome redone when I had the car painted in 1983.

I will be more than pleased to upload the photos I have of this car from the early 1980's if I can get some assistance with scanning them. Some of the old photos have negatives, but most do not. How can we get this done?

    Thanks,

Great to see my old car again, this time at Hyman Ltd. Classic Cars in St. Louis, Mo. I uploaded the photos from their website at:

    www.hymanltd.com/search/Details.asp

The car is offered at $59,500, I think I paid $1,750 for it in 1979/80. As I mentioned in earlier posts, this car was one of the very late Series 1 E-types to have opened headlights. Everything else was pure Series 1. This car was my first E-Type and has always been special to me. I have had two others since then, but 1E34136 was special. The Hyman ad photos clearly show the glass covered headlights that I had installed in the early 1980's. If you look closely, you will see that there are no short chrome beading strips between the bottom of the headlight cover rims and the top of the bumpers. They were not on the car with the original open headlights and I did not have them installed along with the glass and chrome headlight covers. This car now also has air conditioning which was not in the car when I owned it 20 years ago. Looks like someone installed a ballast ignition also.

I recently went through a bunch of old parts that had been in storage for 20 years and found the original tool kit for 1E34136 along with some original paperwork. lots of great old photos too!

Two photos added on 29 May 2008 are not of 1E34136 and should be removed. Compared to posted photos taken in 2006 while car was at Hyman Classic Cars clearly show that the engine subframe color is wrong and that the non-stock A/C setup is missing. Also, the ballast ignition upgrade is missing. These photos from may of 2008 are of a different car.

I lived in Costa Mesa on 18th Street for a while around 1980 when I owned this car and it is great to see it back in Orange County after all these years. Not too far from my current location, so I might go visit her.

    Hello Ivar,

Thank you for your message. I had the headlights changed on 1E34136 a long time ago - about 30 years ago - so I don't remember the details. In general, it was a difficult job because the Series 1 headlight buckets that fit inside the bonnet are very different from the Series 1.5 parts. This difference required that the parts be carefully modified to fit properly. At first, it appears to be a simple project, but in reality it is frustrating and complex.

    Cheers,

    Bill
