Car listed on EBay:

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

Description: Jaguar : XKE SIII
1973 Jaguar XKE (E-Type) V12 Roadster 4 Spd.

Miles: 22425 Doors: 2 doors
Transmission: Manual Interior: Blue
Engine: 12 - Cyl. Year: 1973
VIN Number: UD1S23097 Exterior: Blue

Options: Air Conditioning Convertible Leather Seats

Vehicle Description: This is an all-original, never restored 1973 E-type roadster with manual transmission. The original owner became ill soon after purchasing the car. It was carefully stored and after over ten years in storage was brought out and sold to a collector. Since coming out of storage, the car has been maintained solely by Elliot Evans at Tourist Trophy Garage in New Orleans, Louisiana. The second owner sold the car to me after years of personal enjoyment, Sunday cruises, Jaguar club meets etc. I purchased the car in 1988 with 19,000 miles and have continued with Tourist Trophy and very light but regular driving. I have extensive maintenance records and interested parties can call Elliot at Tourist Trophy for mechanical condition questions. The mileage is well documented in the records and is correct.

The car is almost completely original. The tool kit is intact and the wheels are in excellent condition. I just replaced the top as the rear window made driving unsafe. The clock works, the AC blows cold. The radio is original and works, no speakers have been replaced or holes made for any aftermarket products. Under the bonnet the only modification is from the original Butec ignition module, the replacement as recommended by Jaguar is currently in use but the original is still in place. The battery has been replaced, along with the tires and the top.

An extensive collection of books on Jaguar cars and the V-12 E-type go with the car, including the original factory shop manual; many are out of print.

The top is best quality, new in August and the tires are also new in August. Five Michelin MXV4-S8 were fitted, I saved the spare tire, as I believe it is factory original.

The only flaw in the car’s documentation and history is that while in the original owners hands the car was stolen and quickly recovered but the firewall ID plate was popped off and never recovered. There are several other sites on the car where the numbers are located, I confirmed these when purchasing the car and reconfirmed by the Louisiana State Police when changing the title to antique for permanent Louisiana license plates.

Vehicle Condition: The car is in very good condition. The paint is original and shows wear up close. All the chrome is original and in good condition except for one headlight ring that has a flaked area. The rubber under trim pieces is clearly old. The photos show the paint/body looks very good overall but there are several flaws. In detail, there is an old repair on the very front of the bonnet (hood) where the paint clearly doesn’t match perfectly. There is evidence of another minor repair in the passenger side rear fender just behind the wheel well. These were both present from the time of the car came out of storage and were reported to be parking lot incidents. There has never been a wreck or any significant damage. This is one reason I never repainted the car so that to a true collector the history of the car is clear. There are some very minor dings and dents from years in the garage. There is no rust of any significance and no rust repairs have been done. The car has been kept in a garage or carport.

The interior is completely intact. Like the paint, the seating leather shows some age, but there are no tears, just some fading and wear spots. The headrests have collapsed, the leather is good but I assume the foam has crumbled. The other upholstery is in excellent condition, the floor mats have always had an aftermarket mat on top, and so they look new. The gages all work, occasionally the tach will drop to 0 then recover. The clock works when the car is used regularly, it will stop when the car is stored for a couple of weeks. The trunk is clean with all original upholstery and plywood. The metal floor under fuel tank and spare is in fine shape, no repairs or significant rust. The wire wheels are original and are in very good shape

The car starts easily and drives beautifully. My dilemma as owner is that the car is in such good original shape with low mileage that I was reluctant to drive it regularly yet I do not have the wherewithal or talent to complete the concourse restoration that this car deserves. The next owner can simply drive the car and enjoy it or with an interior spiff-up and re-spray start entering car shows. This model is sure to return to the $80,000 range achieved in the 1980’s as the economy recovers. If you are serious come see it and drive it, I have tried to be totally honest about the condition but I am not a concourse judge and can’t rate the car on any point system. It drives well and turns heads everywhere I go;

Car has zero bids with an opening price of US $20,000.00 (Reserve not met)

Current bid $25,555 reserve not met , 2 bids, 3 days left in auction. Car still located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Sellers description:
This is a never restored, original car. New tires and top are the only significant parts replaced. It drives perfectly; the air conditioner blows cold; the original radio works. The paint shows its age, it looks good from a distance but has lots of little pits and dings. One old repair on nose is clearly visible; the car was backed into while in a parking lot. No rust anywhere. Interior is completely intact but shows some wear, the headrests have collapsed. Carpet is perfect; there have always been aftermarket mats on top. The car has always been garaged. Extensive service records available, these records completely document the mileage. Service has been done by Elliot Evans by Tourist Trophy Garage in New Orleans, a true V-12 expert. Only engine modifications are the original failure prone electronic ignition was replaced in the early 80’s and the equally failure prone relay for the cooling fans. The original units are in place under the bonnet.

The new owner of this car will have two options: drive and enjoy it today - or embark on a museum quality restoration. This car has been used as a guide for a restoration because every nut, bolt and wire and some of the original factory tags with string are still in place. There have been no aftermarket radios, speakers, performance modifications done to the car. It is as if it just rolled out of the factory.

Car has a buy it now price of $109,500 for 6 days. Now said to be in Venice, California. 1k miles.

Sellers description:
It drives the way it looks, nearly perfectly. No car is perfect but this is very close in terms of what has been done to it and the inherent nature of this particular automobile.

The owner has passed away which is the only reason this car is on the market. His wife is selling his two prized Jaguars and I am helping with these sales.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
