Car to be at auction 8/14
www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2014-08-30/cars/jaguar-e-type-siii-roadster- ...

Auction description:
August 30, 2014 auction
Lot 271 - 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III Roadster
Registration CRX 47M
Chassis Number UDIS21453BW
Engine Number 78442-1-0
Odometer reading 54,197 miles
Estimate £38,000 - £46,000

Imported into UK from Los Angeles as a very sound example in 1980, this Series III Roadster was subjected to a substantial renovation by E-Type specialists of the day: MCR Phoenix of Birmingham. Work included a back to metal re-paint and returned to righthand drive configuration as well as the correct four-speed synchromesh gearbox for its then owner. It also has the recognised `child seat` conversion in place of the stowage box behind the seats. The history file contains numerous, largely consecutive, MoT test certificates dating back from 1982 together with a wealth of restoration and parts bills and also a photographic record from that period. Following recent re-commissioning and overhaul by leading Jaguar specialists WinSpeed Motorsport of Guildford, the car is described as driving extremely well. It possesses a new MoT test certificate issued in August 2014, the V5C, current road tax and a Jaguar/Daimler Heritage Certificate. Other notable specialists associated with this car are Axtells of Bramley, Chelsea Cars and Chris Keith-Lucas (then of Lynx Engineering).
The result is a V12 E-Type which is structurally very sound, possessing very good panels, excellent panel fit and generally very well presented. Finished in Jaguar Solent Blue with excellent Isis Blue interior trim and blue Mohair hooding and hoodbag, the price point is excellent for a well put together E-Type.

For sale at WinSpeed Motor Sport of Guildford for £78,000. Seller's description below.

Well presented today in Solent Blue with Blue trim this E Type has the great bonus of possessing a very good straight line with exceptionally good body shell and associated panels. Furthermore, WinSpeed were entrusted with a major overhaul in 2013 and subsequent work in the intervening years. The car is ready to use and enjoy.

Exported to New York in 1973, it is quite extraordinary to see that this car returned to the UK in 1980, when only seven years old and with a mileage of 34,000. Not only that, but it was completely restored on arrival, converted from automatic to manual and also to RHD, with a complete colour change from Fern Grey with Moss Green trim to Silver with Black.

There is an extensive photo album documenting this expensive process, made even more remarkable by virtue of also documenting its further transformation to its present colour combination. The mileage currently showing is 55,000 and judging by numerous MoT certificates, is believed to be correct.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
