Private Party or Dealer: Dealer

This 1969 Jaguar XKE 2+2 is finished in Primrose Yellow over a black leather interior and powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The previous owner is said to have owned the car starting in 1973, keeping it in storage from 2012 up until the selling dealer’s purchase in January of this year. Subsequent servicing to return the car to running condition included a fuel system cleaning, a carburetor rebuild, and a new battery. This Series II XKE is now offered by the selling dealer with an owner’s handbook, a bill of sale from 1973, and a clean California title.

The exterior is finished in Pale Primrose Yellow (6964) accented by chrome bumpers and moldings. The selling dealer states the car appears to have been repainted, and chips and imperfections can be seen. Pitting can be seen on the bumpers, bumper guards, exhaust tips, and wheels.

15″ chrome wire wheels wear 205/75 Hankook Optimo thin white wall tires. Series II updates included a wrap-around rear bumper, a revised headlight design, and larger tail light assemblies below the rear bumper.

The interior is trimmed in black leather with matching carpets, door panels, and dash treatment. The driver’s seat upholstery shows cracking and wear. An aftermarket cassette stereo is installed, and the factory steering wheel rim has been wrapped in a black cover.

Factory Smiths instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for battery voltage, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 600 miles and is believed by the selling dealer to have rolled over once.

The 4.2L inline-six is mounted under a front-hinged bonnet and is paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. US-market cars were equipped with twin Stromberg carburetors and factory rated at 245 horsepower. The selling dealer notes that the car was recently put back into service after sitting since 2012, and may need more maintenance before being driven regularly. Service in January 2020 included cleaning the fuel system, a carburetor rebuild, and a new battery.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
