Additional description from above auction:
This 1969 Jaguar XKE 2+2 Coupe is a non-running Series 2 restoration candidate that was stored in a collection for 33 years before being purchased by the current owner in 2015. There was 46,385 miles on the clock when the previous owner first registered the four-seater in 1980, and he drove the car 2,584 miles before it was put into climate-controlled storage among his other vehicles in 1982. The original 4.2 liter XK inline six with twin Stromberg carbs is matched to a 3-speed Borg Warner automatic and has not been started since taken out of storage. The exterior was repainted in the early 80's in its original Sable color, and a Series 1 bonnet was fitted for a sharper look. Many extra parts come with the car including four spare wire wheels and new glass headlight covers. A validated Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate is included, and the car carries a clean Maryland title.
Upon the previous owner's passing, his large car collection was sold off. However, the family retained this Jaguar and offered it to the seller first, who is a long-time family friend. The Sable paint was re-applied sometime before being stored in the early 80's according to the owner, and appears to have held up well over time. A blemish on the passenger wheel arch is said to be the most noticeable flaw in the paint.
The chrome bumpers and brightwork show some light pitting and dullness in areas, but are in serviceable condition overall. A few small dings are evident on the front bumper's top grille section. Glass appears to be in good condition with one chip in the windshield, though the rubber seals have some cracks present from age.
The black interior is worn with cracking apparent on the upholstery and two split seams on the front seats. The wooden-rimmed steering wheel and gauges are intact. It is unclear if the gauges still operate correctly as the car has not been started since taken out of storage. The plastics on the switchgear and trim are in good condition, but vents above the radio appear to be sagging over the center console. The headliner is sagging and needs to be reattached or replaced.
The engine is not frozen as the valves were adjusted by the PO. For a car sitting for this long, it is advised that a Jaguar expert assess the condition of the engine and prescribe the steps necessary to prepare it for starting.
The fluids have been changed, and a new starter, plugs, and wires have been installed. The fuel tank has been reconditioned. More recent service includes a new steering rack and tie rod ends.
