Ebay item 2/4/04
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Closing bid $8,100.00 (Reserve not met) after 9 bids. 116k miles on the odo. Buy it now price $10,000.
Sellers comment:
I bought this car in March 2002 and started a rolling restoration. I have logged over 200 miles since getting it running and have changed all fluids, installed new front shocks and ball joints. Frankly, it runs better than I thought it would. A local Jag shop did an alignment, oil pressure check and compression check w/no surprises- (#1 cylinder is a little weak at 150lbs). They recommended a carb rebuild (see included parts) and new motor mounts. It smokes pretty good as it warms up, but the more I drive it the better (less smoke) it gets. The bonnet is in good shape with typical bumperette dings that happen when the bonnet opens too quickly and other dings. The car lists alittle to the left, hood or torsion bar adjustment, maybe, not sure. Although the bonnet has no bondo the rest of the car does in various locations (see pics). It needs a complete interior, seats are worn and torn, Dash is cracked, headliner is non OEM and new, but drooping (needs glue). After market homemade door panels, carpet and various interior covers. All gauges and lights are working, except the tachometer (needs new sender). The heater core is not hooked up so it’s condition is unknown. Parts include new rear shocks, SU rebuild kits, water hoses kit and various used original stuff from previous owners (see pics).
Even in its humble condition the lines of this car are beautiful. Art. Although I regularly exercise this car, I would not recommend a long distance road trip at this point (bring a trailer). Having been burned on eBay myself, if this car is not as I have described, I will refund your deposit. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and I will respond quickly. I am not yet an expert on the Jaguar marque, however, I will give straight answers to all questions and concerns. I would call this a #2 car. If you are looking to restore a classic jag as a driver (#3) this is it!

1964 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES I 3.8 FIXED HEAD COUPE
STRAIGHT BODIED, RUNNING & DRIVING EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND SOUGHT-AFTER CARS OF ALL TIME. ORIGINALLY, OPALESCENT BLUE METALLIC, THE NOW BLACK, PRIMER-FINISHED BODY APPEARS RUST-FREE WITH GOOD SHUTLINES. THE PREVIOUS OWNER, A RETIRED MECHANIC, PLANNED TO RESTORE THE CAR AND CAREFULLY REBUILT THE MATCHING NUMBERS ENGINE HIMSELF, INCLUDING, MACHINING THE ORIGINAL HEAD, FITTING NEW PISTONS IN THE REBORED ORIGINAL BLOCK & REGRINDING THE ORIGINAL CRANK WITH NEW BEARINGS. UNFORTUNATELY, DETERIORATING HEALTH LEFT HIM UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE REMAINDER OF THE RESTORATION AND SO THE CAR SAT FOR SEVERAL YEARS BEFORE WE FINALLY ACQUIRED IT, AS YOU SEE IT NOW. IT STARTS RIGHT UP, WITH GOOD OIL PRESSURE AND DOES NOT OVERHEAT. HE REPLACED THE CLUTCH WHILST REBUILDING THE ENGINE AND CONSEQUENTLY, IT SHIFTS WELL. BRAKE PEDAL IS GOOD AND THE CAR STOPS STRAIGHT. THE LIGHTS & TURN SIGNALS WORK TOO.
THIS REPRESENTS AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE A RUNNING, DRIVING EXAMPLE COMPLETE THE RESTORATION YOURSELF, OR JUST DRIVE IT THE WAY IT IS, AS THE ULTIMATE RAT-ROD!

For sale by Hexagon Classics in the UK
www.hexagonclassics.com/car_sales/Jaguar-E-Type-Series-1-3.8-litre-Fixed-Head-Co ...
The previous owner shipped the matching-numbers E-Type to the UK with the intention of fully restoring it. One of the UK's leading and highly respected Jaguar restorers were entrusted to carry out a complete restoration of the motorcar, the documentation of which is on file. The body was taken down to bare metal and properly gapped prior to refinishing the car in Opalescent Silver Blue metallic. The mechanical refurbishment included works to the engine, clutch, front suspension, exhaust system, cooling system & rear axle.
Additionally, the interior was completely re-trimmed in blue leather with light blue piping, as it had been originally commissioned. The car has only covered test mileage since its restoration was completed and it remains fresh & ready to use for the next very fortunate owner.
The Jaguar E Type has remained a truly iconic piece of British motoring history since it was voted "the most beautiful car of all time" by the Daily Telegraph in 2008 and in 2004; Sports Car International magazine placed the E-Type at number one on their list of Top Sports Cars of the decade. On the cars public release in 1961 Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made".
These early 3.8-litre examples are amongst the most desirable of the breed, as they represent the purest and most unadulterated E-Type with the sought-after styling of the first series. This rare Fixed Head Coupé is an exceptional example, as it retains its original engine and has been beautifully restored.

Missed this part from previous posting:
The first-series Fixed Head Coupé offered here was manufactured on 8 April 1964 and supplied new with the rare sun dym glass option. Six days later, it was dispatched and delivered through Jaguar Cars of New York, New York. Its first owner is listed as W. Bailey, also of the Big Apple. Whilst its interim history is unknown, it was acquired by the current owner from a gentleman in California, who is believed to have owned the E-Type for over 40 years. It is said that the car was used sparingly whilst in the U.S., and that the mileage of 16,800 showing on the odometer, is believed by the last owner to be correct, although no documentation exists to support this.
