Lot #133827
This 1962 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was acquired by the owner in the 1970s as an unfinished project and was refurbished circa 2013. Power is provided by a 3.8-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car is a triple-black example equipped with enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, and a heater. This XKE Series I roadster is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a Pennsylvania title in the owner’s name listing the car as a 1963 model.
The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example was refinished in black as part of the refurbishment, and portions of the floor pans are reported to have been replaced. The car is equipped with a black soft top, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, and dual exhaust outlets. Scratches and blemishes on the bumpers and trim are noted.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off hubs and mounted with 195/75 Firestone Deluxe Champion Radial tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include textured aluminum dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, and a heater. The Sony CD stereo does not work.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 38k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.
The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. An aftermarket radiator is equipped. A vehicle appraisal report from August 2023 is presented in the gallery below and notes residue around the oil pan and floor pan.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The chassis number reads 878056. The sequence J63878056 is listed as the VIN on the Pennsylvania title, which carries an Antique Vehicle brand.
