One owner since 1964, colour changed from original Dusty Orange to what appears to be Heather in the late 70's early 80's

For more information see chassis 878045, this I believe is one of the seven cars mentioned in the comments on 878045 ordered by Estee lauder in 1962

Original colour Dusty Orange, believed one of a batch of cars specially ordered in 62, possibly by Estee Lauder, see chassis number 878045

XKEdata.com," a fantastic reference site for all things Etype, 878051 along with six other cars formed a special order by Estee Lauder in 1962, the 7 cars given as prizes by the Cosmetic giant. If you search for 878045, it shows the correct color of "Dusty Orange" as it would have been upon delivery and describes the special Esttee Lauder order. My car, 878051 seems to have been repainted at some time during its career, still pink it's now almost "Heather" in color, a shade more commonly seen on 70's V12 ETypes and Jaguar XJ's of that era. You can see though that no attempt was made to color the frame rails as they retain the faded Dusty Orange

Condition
The body is lovely, the sides are arrow straight , I can find no evidence of rust nor accident damage anywhere, the turnk floor is rock solid and from underneath you can still see the join lines running front to back. When you lift the original bonnet the frame rails are all dead straight, the rockers or sills where they join the frames are perfect, so often this area shows sings of corrosion, not so here.

Interior
The interior is lovely, the seats appear to have been recovered at some stage, they are just too nice to be original, dashboard is fantastic, carpets are perfect and a period vinyl top is fitted, marked with the AMCO badge, not quite correct but a proper period piece, it matches the toneau.

Mechanicals
The motor starts with half choke, it pops into life with gusto, no smoke and shows excellent oil pressure, gears shift easily, you've got to remember its a Moss Box, the clutch seems to be at the end of its travel so that's going to need some attention soon. The brakes pull up absolutely straight but I think new rotors will be required soon. I believe that the exhaust system is stainless steel

All in all a very rare and unusual car, much more interesting than your run of the mill reds and green

There never was a promotion from Estee Lauder in 1962. Confirmed this with the company's principal shareholder--in 1962, the company didn't have the money for that sort of promotion. They marketed to the people who bought lipsticks, using things like direct mail and gifts with purchase. This is some fantasy attempt to upsell somebody or rationalize an after market paint job.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
