Sellers description:
A fantastic car for the true purist,!!! I am a car dealer and a car nut from south texas and i have had them all, exotics antiques, boats motorhomes etc but in all my 30 plus years i have never come across a more enjoyable old car than this one . I got this car as a trade in on a jag race car i had . This is the real xke that blew the world away then and still does now. This one is a very early example that was sold new in madrid spain to a lieutenant in the army and he kept every piece of literature including the original warranty card, delivery letters, correspondence with jaguar cars etc the paperwork alone is enough to astound any collector. This car has the original jaguar daimler heritage trust paper also , it is totally original and correct out side of the paint which is old and needs totally redone . I can not decide whether to restore the body or just enjoy as is because this car just has fantastic patina if you know what i mean. it is a trip back in time!!! I have been out driving around in it this morning and everything just works like new, the motor starts right up, no smoke but some chain rattle that i think is normal, the clutch and trans are incredible as is the drivetrain as you would expect but it is all the little stuff, the light comes on when you open either door, the tach, speedo and all gauges work perfect, the original keys unlock the original doors, the windows and trunk mechanisms are perfect as is the glass etc the top appears to be original !!! the seats are original and outside of seams that are pulled apart they are awesome, the trunk and trunk floor are super, the fuel pump is non original but it works well, the steering and brakes are just plain great, the choke light works!! etc etc etc I would say that you could just drive it anywhere and it does not overheat!! the 3.8 etype is the best e type period. The early jag convertibles are truly the best of the breed . now the down side this car has total structural integrity, the doors shut fine and it is still strong but the driver side sill is rusty and it is rusty around the area where the torsion arm bolts to the floor but still solid, the paint is old and needs redone, the rubber on the doors and top etc are deteriorated, the sill on the passenger side has some rust also, ideally you replace both, it is unusual that the trunk and trunk floor are excellent and the right front footwell is ok , the driver side footwell is a little rusty and had a make shift repair but it works fine, the chrome is all there and presentable but it could stand replating. The motor compartment is just awesome and original but it does have a valve cover gasket leak ,minor . The engine and the entire car will make a show champion if so desired, it has never been screwed with outside of the paint on the heater box and the air cleaner, i do not have the tools or the tonneau cover which is surprising considering how complete the car is. it will not cost someone in the body shop business very much to redo this car and all the parts are available. IF the body and paint were done the car will bring 50,000 to 100,000 dollars depending on the level of restoration. it is harder to find an original unrestored car than it is a restored show piece , you be the judge thanks ALL NUMBERS MATCH, motor, trans, body etc TRUE SURVIVOR!
