Info gathered with permission from:

This car was reported to have been sold new in Australia. In 1979 it was reported to be located in England. In early 1987, it was reported to still be in existence, but no location was given. In 1988 it was reported to be in located in Australia.

Tom Haddock (E-type restoration guide author) writes in the July '80 issue of Ejag magazine that this car is on his register of early cars.

This car is mentioned in issue # 26 of "The Jaguar" magazine (Australian). That issue looks to have been printed in '89.

This car was sold new through Brysons in Melbourne, Australia, having been despatched from the works on 28 July 1961, the same date as 850085 was despatched to Brysons in Sydney. These were the first two E Types sold new in Australia. See "The Jaguar XK in Australia", page 21.

See Jaguar Magazine #79 of May 1998, page 53: owners noted to have been Best Overend (first), Peter Riddell (1976-1977), Steve Klaric (of Melbourne), then Steve Moulder of Warwick, Qld in 1998.

850086 is alive and very well, and despite earlier comments once imported to Australia new, has never been outside Victoria (where sold new) or Queensland (where it is now). This car and other early RHD E-types as listed in Haddocks book was my contribution, but not acknowledged.

I developed/assembled and still convene the AUSTRALIAN E-TYPE REGISTER which attempts to record every E-type that has ever been in Australia, whether new here or a second-hand import, and whether still here or exported elsewhere....

850086 was one of the first two E-types imported new to Australia, albeit there are now a number of earlier cars imported second hand now here....

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
