850015 is residing in Australia, we have looked after this car for over twenty years. It is in good original condition and not the usual rust bucket. 850015 is fitted with a black factory hard-top. This car was handed over to Bruce McLaren from the factory, its original colour BRG with brg wire wheels and red interior. Bruce did take his e type around Goodwood and have some early pictures.

John Coombs, along with Peter Berry and Tommy Sopwith was one of three racing teams to be allocated early delivery of roadster E types from the factory by Lofty England. The three teams had a pair of E types each, one of which was the modified ZPS37/24 racing car whilst the other was the 'on show' paddock and road car. 850015 was dispatched to Henlys and supplied to Coombs of Guildford in July 1961. Registered 406VPC it was Coombs paddock and road car, used as a demonstrator and by Bruce McLaren, a driver for John Coombs racing team. The black and white photograph was taken on 19 August 1961 in the paddock during the TT meeting at Goodwood.

This is a significant early car but "The most famous non competition E-Type". 9600HP, 77RW and the New York show cars are way more significant than this car. Please be more realistic with the sales hype.

I would say its not sales hype, its a significant car now having a significant amount of money spent on it to bring it back to its former glory. Well done JD you are investing in British Heritage. I wish the 'knockers' in this world would give credit to a company that continuously re-invests in British Motoring Heritage instead of running off to the beach. Nice to see a bit of vision and passion, very rare these days.

Here, here. I think it is not as significant as 77RW or 9600HP but still one of the most important surviving E Type's. I see nothing wrong with JD's description.

the E type it was on the "priority owners list" but was not one of the cars on the "project ZP537/24 list" for any modifications as far as I can tell

Sold by J D Classics of Maldon in August 2018. Abbreviated description below.
    www.jdclassics.com/Cars/For-Sale/1961-Jaguar-E-Type-Chassis-15-Bruce-McLaren-221 ...

Chassis 15, the car offered here, was one of the first batch of 18 priority list hand built cars, of which 7 were built to race specification. Chassis 15 was originally supplied to Bruce McLaren by the well known Jaguar dealer, Coombs of Guildford. John Coombs, along with Peter Berry and Tommy Sopwith, was one of three race team owners to be allocated early delivery of the E Type Roadster from the factory by Lofty England. The three teams had a pair of E Types each, one of which was the modified ZPS37/24 racing car whilst the other was the 'on show' paddock and road car. Chassis 15 was dispatched and supplied to Coombs of Guildford in July 1961, and registered 406VPC. Bruce can be seen driving chassis 15 in the paddock during the 1961 TT meeting at Goodwood in the recently released film about his extraordinary life.

Acquired by J D Classics in early 2016 from long term ownership in Australia, chassis 15 has had an exhaustive 4,500 hour J D Classics restoration in factory original specification. All of the rare early features including outside bonnet locks, welded in bonnet louvres and flat floors have been painstakingly restored and the E Type retains a full set of numbers that match the factory build sheet and retains its original factory supplied hard top. Finished in its original British Racing Green with body coloured wire wheels, Red hide interior and Black top it is presented in absolute concours condition and is probably one of the most famous non competition E Types in existence.

I've just found the car on Roger Payne's E Type Register listing. My copy states that it was for sale in Melbourne in 1980 for just over $11,000. In the same year (I think), Bob Jane's LWT E Type sold at auction in Australia for about $80,000. A new XJS was $43,100 in Australia, in 1980!
