1970 Jaguar E-Type Series II Lightweight Coupé

Registration 8 WXL
Chassis Number 2R28743
Odometer reading 9,064 miles
Estimate £62,000 - £68,000

We are proud to offer a rather special Jaguar E-Type Coupé that has been built into a lightweight road/race machine. The car was originally supplied to the North American market and was repatriated back into the UK during the 1990s. In 1999, Jack Brabham drove the car at the launch of the Everyman Motorsport Classic Car Experience at Brands Hatch and from this time, the car has been cared for by the Jaguar specialist, John Arnold of Revival Motorsport. John is regarded as one of the best Jaguar specialists in the UK today. His ability to build reliable fast road/race cars with exceptional handling is renown within knowledgeable circles. Within the past two years, John has transformed and rebuilt the car, into a lightweight E-Type with Series I features.

The works involved the fitting of lightweight aluminium doors, aluminium bonnet, a composite rear hatch that houses the Le Mans fuel filler and re-modelling the rear end. Mechanically, the specification further impresses and a short résumé includes; the engine having been rebuilt using forged Rob Beere pistons, wide blade connecting rods and a big valve cylinder head that includes Rob Beere camshafts. The fuel is supplied from the 90 litre alloy fuel tank via the triple Weber DCOE carburettors with the exhaust gases exiting via the sand bent exhaust manifolds (costing £2500). The cooling system incorporates an alloy radiator and header tank. Power is in the region of 340 bhp. Drive is provided by an alloy flywheel, AP Triple Green 9.5 inch clutch and a short tail shaft Getrag Jaguar gearbox to a 3.07:1 Powerlok differential. The handling is supplied by a lightweight geometry set up with adjustable Gaz shock absorbers, torsion bars at front with coil overs at the rear and billet aluminium steering arms attached to a new steering rack. The steering column has been overhauled top and bottom which is a job often neglected. The brakes are four pot callipers with vented discs to the front with twin pot callipers to the rear.

On the inside this E-Type does not disappoint; the seats are alloy framed and trimmed in black leather with lightweight door panels and bespoke door pulls. The rev counter and odometer are electronic D-Type style with the standard auxiliary instruments, set into a Series I alloy panel, keeping the driver well informed.

8WXL is supplied with a UK registration, an MoT test certificate valid until 6th November 2014 and Historic road fund licence valid until the end of April 2015.
This magnificent Jaguar is well presented and looks fabulous sitting upon its black dummy replica Dunlop peg alloy wheels. Not only that, driving the car, it is clear that this is one of the finest performance and handling Jaguar E-Types, built by one of the UK's leading specialists and therefore, surely a must given the estimate.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
