Seen on eBay, 5/2003. Ad reads:

"1972 Manual Transmission V-12 2+2 for parts or restore. This is a "matching numbers" car, and includes a data plate. Body number 1S72615, engine number 7S5030 SA, transmission number KL1535. Collision damage in left rear, stripped of many parts but still a complete rolling chassis including suspension, calipers, rotors, IRS, 4 speed manual transmission, and most of the engine still there. Lots of odd and ends as well.
Carbs/intakes/distributor are gone, no radiator, no A/C parts, no interior, no glass, no trim, no chrome, just what you see in the photos. Front engine frames are not good enough to run in our opinion as they have been bent/welded. The bonnet is really too far gone (rust) so it is not currently mounted on the tub. The car does have a valid US title.

A lot of the value of this car is in the complete manual transmission setup (less pedal box) which easily adds thousands to the value of a V-12 XKE when installed in place of an automatic transmission, even more on a roadster. Not to mention fun factor..."

Current bid $1,025, no reserve, 10 bids, 1 day left in auction. Car located in Austin, Texas.

Sellers description:
Complete rolling chassis, obviously missing many significant components, see photos for details. Could only be restored with MAJOR EFFORT as the car lacks the bonnet, doors, glass, interior, carburetors, intake system, steering components, dash, instruments, etc. Also the engine frames are bad and the body shows quite a bit of rust and dents, but it does have a rear hatch door not shown. This car more realistically should be considered as a valuable source of restoration parts, for example replacing your automatic XKE Series 3 with this car's complete manual 4-speed setup could increase your car's value by 20% or more. Also if you're into building hot rods, here we offer a complete Jaguar IRS and front torsion bar suspension missing only the front calipers. HOWEVER, this is a MATCHING NUMBERS CAR with a DATA PLATE and with a CLEAR TITLE.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
