Auction description:
Lot : 43
1972 JAGUAR E-TYPE V12 ROADSTER
Estimate: NOT SOLD
Mileage: 92340
Colour: O.E.W.
Trim Colour: BLACK
Chassis No: 1S51351BW
Engine No: 7S5999SA
Registration No: UWM 10L
M.O.T: AUG 2008

Finished in Old English White with contrasting black upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "excellent" condition with regard to its engine, automatic transmission, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres (while, he rates the electrical equipment as "good"). A somewhat special car, chassis 1S51352BW is not only said to have had just "one registered owner from new" but also to have been the subject of an extensive 'ground up' restoration by XK Engineering Ltd that totalled "in the region of £60,000". Protected by a Carcoon as well as a garage, the Jaguar is understood to have covered a mere 3,000 miles in the ten years since work was completed. Riding on correct-type steel wheels, this "one owner" E-type V12 Roadster is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until August 2008.

Sold by the Classic and Sports Car Centre of Malton in June 2016. Description runs: We are delighted to offer this truly magnificent genuine UK supplied RHD Jaguar E Type V12 Automatic onto the market. UWM10L was subject to a full nut and bolt restoration to show standard condition by World Jaguar specialists XK Engineering in 1997 - 1998 at a cost of about £60,000. The E Type was sold by us in 2009 in show condition having covered just 3,000 miles since the rebuild. Seven years later the Jaguar has covered 15,000 miles having toured the UK extensively. Over the past seven years the E Type has had in the region of £7,000 spent on maintenance to the highest standards. UWM10L comes with a full photographic record of the restoration, restoration invoices from XK Engineering and further parts invoices and MOT certificates since the rebuild.

£60,000 of restoration costs in the 1990's was a huge amount of money considering you could buy a top class roadster for half that amount at the time. A major part of that cost was brand new body panels that effectively made this E Type a re-shelled car. A full photographic record demonstrates the level of work and the list of brand new panels is exhaustive, including a brand new bonnet. UWM10L originally left the factory in coupe format and as the car was in need of full restoration, the owner commissioned XK Engineering to re-shell the car professionally as a roadster. Considering the costs of conversion, the owner opted to have the car in Roadster form as to restore to the original specification would cost a similar amount. This truly outstanding example should not be confused with the many conversions out there, this is a car that has stripped down to nothing and rebuilt with brand new panels to an effectively brand new body shell by top Jaguar specialists and is therefore an exceptional, top class example that offers exceptionally good value to the discerning E Type buyer who is looking for a first class example to use, drive and enjoy on a regular basis.

On completion of the body shell it was fully re-painted in Old English White. Mechanical and electrical components were stripped down, rebuilt or replaced as necessary, fully detailed to show condition and re-fitted to the car. The E Type was fitted with brand new upholstery, new hood and frame, kept on its original steel wheels and all bright work re-chromed. On completion a very low annual mileage was covered and the car has been a delight to own. It has reliably toured the South of England several times, been taken to Jersey and has covered many miles touring Yorkshire where the car has been based. Maintenance and upkeep over the past seven years includes all new hoses, new drive belts, new heater valve, header tank, four new tyres and new ignition items.

This E type has ben driven back to us faultlessly and since last selling the car in 2009, we have seen it here many times as the most recent owner regularly calls in to keep an eye on our stock. We can report it is still in exceptional mechanical condition with a superb engine and gearbox. The front suspension and brakes and rear suspension, brakes and differential unit are all in exceptional condition and the car is truly first class to drive. As in 2009 the Jaguar is presented in absolutely first class condition today.
