Not sold 6/2003 at Christies in London

    Condition Description

Mileage likely to be genuine and only one owner. Largely original paint (apart from repainted off-side) and brightwork only fair, driver‘s seat leather dull and cracked, V12 engine bay clearly has seen use. Steel wheels poor, Radiomobile stereo 8-track.

    Market Opinion

Despite low mileage and single ownership, there were no takers for this unrestored original with manual shift, which was simply not good enough for $48,600 minimum forecast.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
