This car was mentioned by Kent Marvin in the 5/89 issue of Ejag magazine as having been owned by his parents. They owned it for 7 years and put 70k miles on it.

This was my mother's 25th wedding aniversary present from my father. I used it when I was in high school - great for getting dates. I later restored a different XKE. They are unique cars, nothing beats the throaty yet sophisticated sound of the engine out of the reasonators when cruising 40 mph on a sunny day with the top down! THe irony of all this is that I later became the director of mfg for Lucas Aerospace in the mid '90's! Yes, the prince of darkness was a well used term there (good products though) and a list of corporate jokes made the rounds. Lucas electrics were the bain of the XKE, for a lot of reasons. The mechanicals of the XKE were superb. If you know where this car is today, I would love to chat with you. Hopefully, it was lovingly restored and someone is enjoying it as much as we did.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
