This 1970 Jaguar XKE is a Series II roadster that was dispatched in November 1969 and was reportedly purchased new by the current owner. The car is finished in Sable over beige leather upholstery and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 15″ steel wheels, chrome bumpers with overriders, a tan soft top, four-wheel disc brakes, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a JVC cassette stereo. The car reportedly underwent a mechanical refurbishment completed in 2016, which consisted of rebuilding the brake master cylinder and carburetors along with the replacement of various suspension components, the fuel pump, and the spark plugs, ignition points, condenser, distributor cap, and rotor. This XKE is now offered on behalf of the owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s and workshop manual, and a clean California title in owner’s name.
The car was delivered from the factory in Sable and is said to have been refinished. Exterior details include chrome bumpers with overriders as well as a tan soft top, a left-side mirror, a louvered clamshell hood, and dual polished exhaust outlets. A blemish in the paint is noted on the left-front fender.
Chrome-finished 15″ steel wheels wear Jaguar-branded hub caps and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin Radial XSE tires, and a spare is located in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Work in 2016 is said to have included rebuilding the brake master cylinder and booster as well as the replacing the front ball joints, tie rod ends, steering rack boots, and bushings. Various suspension components were reportedly cleaned, bead blasted, and cadmium-plated at that time.
The cabin houses bucket seats trimmed in beige leather upholstery joined by a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpet. Appointments include manual-crank windows, a locking glove compartment, and a JVC cassette stereo. Scuffs are noted on both door panels.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer, while gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure are located in the center stack. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 47k miles.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, which were reportedly rebuilt in 2016. Additional refurbishment at that time is said to have included a radiator overhaul and replacement of the fuel pump, spark plugs, ignition points, condenser, distributor cap, and rotor.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The ring and pinion gears, bearings, and seals were reportedly replaced in 2016.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate lists a dispatch date of November 25, 1969, along with factory colors and serial numbers.
Chassis number 1R11500 is shown above, and the sequence is listed as the VIN on the title prepended with an “J70.”
