    Ebay item 6/19/07
    cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-2-2-XKE-Jaguar-1967-E-Type-Series-I-VGC-DO ...
Opening bid $9,500 reserve not met, no bids yet, 5 days left in auction. 81k miles.

    Sellers description:
Series I E-Type Jaguar, with the large 4.2L DOHC 6-cylinder engine. If you are looking for a nice early XKE, rust-free, with a strong drivetrain, then this car should fill your needs. The reserve is reasonable for this rarity and quality of Series I XKE, and is well below the values for similar cars advertised in Hemmings.

OVERALL: Good to very good condition. This car is ALL original, and it has all the original parts, right down to the original wire knockoff hub wheels which are in excellent condition, and the leather hammer that goes with them. The only non-original installation is an electric cooling fan that I added. The high-flow fan can be turned on and off with a toggle switch as needed, since all Series I Jags have a small capacity cooling system and can tend toward heating up in stopped traffic. However, the car has never overheated in my driving it for several years, but I wanted to add the additional fan as extra insurance. The car has the original radiator and original electric 2-blade fan which works fine. The car has been stored for the past year and a half, in a humidity controlled garage. I last drove it in 2005, and it started and ran well at that time but has not been started since so the carbs may need cleaning. At that time, I took the car off the road to replace the brakes, and ended up replacing the brake booster, master cylinder (brake and clutch), and clutch slave cylinder. I have just purchased, but not yet installed, two new front disc brake calipers and front brake lines. With these parts, the braking system will be 90% new. All hydraulic brake parts are brass-sleeved, of the highest quality available, and purchased from White Post Restorations in White Post, WV. I believe the mileage to be correct (the odometer and speedo work fine), but cannot be certain. The tires are essentially new radials, but have very slight sidewall cracking due to storage.

BODY: The car is a beautiful Signal Red color, and the paint, though several years old, has very few flaws. There are a couple of small spots in the paint which have been touched up, but they are not particularly significant. The paint is what one might expect of a 10-year old paint job that has been well taken care of, and stored indoors at all times. I am not sure of the original color, because all the painted surfaces are Signal Red. There is no rust on the chrome. The grill bar was removed in the front-orientation photo while I was installing the electric cooling fan. I have the original grill bar with all its mounting hardware and will reinstall it. It is rare to find an original XKE that is this rust-free. The only rust that I have found is in the battery box, which is only slight, and a pencil-diameter bubble in the paint. I cannot find any rust in the rockers or in the lower doors sills, and there is absolutely no rust (or rust repairs) underneath around the rear suspension mounting fixtures, which is a common problem on E-types.

INTERIOR: Original leather interior, with custom-fitted gray sheepskin covers on front bucket seats. The leather is reddish-tan and has small cracks in it, but is serviceable and there are no tears in it. There are no upholstery cracks in the rear luggage area, and the red door panels are in VGC. The red carpet is mostly good, but could be replaced as it looks to be original. The radio is original. All gauges and lights work inside. There are no cracks in the dashboard. All glass is in very good condition, with no cracks or significant scratches. The rear 2+2 seats fold down to make a long luggage area shelf. All window regulators and door locks work fine.

DRIVETRAIN: This is a 4.2L DOHC 6-cylinder car with the original motor, which had been rebuilt by a Jag specialist before I bought it. I have all of the receipts for most of the major services on this car, including the engine rebuild. It has the 3 original carburetors, which have been rebuilt (receipts), but may need cleaning since it has not been run for over a year. It burns no oil, and does not leak from the valvetrain or other gaskets, except for an occasional drip from the oilpan as do most old British cars. The transmission synchros are strong in all 4 gears, and the clutch is strong. Everything on the car works except for the tachometer. I have tested and believe that it is the tachometer drive which needs replacing, and it is available from Welsh Enterprises.

HISTORY: I have owned this car for about 7 years, and I am next door neighbor to the previous owner who owned it for over 25 years. The engine was completely rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago, and the car was completely stripped and repainted a few years before I bought it.

Car has a buy it now price of $31,000 for 6 days. Same location.

    Sellers description:
1967 Jaguar XKE Coupe 2+2, All Original and Rust-Free

E-type Series I, covered headlights version.

The odometer on this car shows about 11,300 miles and it was replaced at 41,029 miles, so I believe (but cannot be 100% sure) that the car has about 52,400 total original miles on it. VIN: 1E76S15

No evidence of any rust or any rust repair ever that I know of. I have owned the car for 11 years and have known its prior local owner for 20+ years. Always garaged. I have described everything here as accurately as possible, and will be glad to answer any questions via email. Please see the extensive photos that I have posted for condition.

The engine was completely rebuilt about 14,000 miles ago. Transmission is the 4-speed manual, which is more desirable than the automatic for collectors. Clutch replaced at approximate same time as engine rebuild. Have receipts. Clutch hydraulic cylinder is new. For about the last 2000 miles, the engine has had a small metallic sound of unknown source that seems to occur at a narrow RPM range, but it starts and drives well. Cannot ascertain exact source of the noise and not sure of repair needed to alleviate. Does not burn any oil and leaks very little for a 46-year British car. Runs cool for this type of car, in part due to a replacement radiator and a large electric fan, with interior switch control, that I installed. The original 2-blade fan was retained in place behind radiator, and the larger added fan is in front of radiator. **This electric fan, and a fuel shut-off valve, are the only non-original parts on this car.** Engine compartment is not detailed but is very clean and free of oil. Exhaust system is a replacement of original, and dual rear chrome pipes are very good condition.

Engine was recently tuned-up, 3 SU carbs serviced, new spark plug wires, and all belts and hoses are new.

Exterior: Good condition overall. Signal Red paint is about 10 years old but has excellent shine, no fading or peeling, a couple very tiny blemishes, and a small dent underneath the front nose piece which is not evident until you get under the car. Paint is very serviceable but certainly not show quality. Chrome is excellent and shows no dents or damage. Have front grill bar -- not shown in photos because removed it to install the electric fan. Glass is all very good. Underneath the car, the original undercoating is still present. No evidence of any rust repair of any kind on this all-original car.

All door panels and luggage area panels are in excellent original condition. Headliner is also good with no tears, but could benefit from a cleaning. Steering wheel is the original walnut rimmed wheel. Dashboard has no cracks. All gauges except tachometer work fine (I believe the tach needs the generator replaced). Carpeting needs to be replaced, as it is the original, and this is readily available from Jag suppliers. Seats are the original leather, which shows cracking, with sheepskin covers on the front buckets. All lights and gauges work. Window regulators and locks work fine. Lap belts only.

Brakes were recently replaced at cost of more than $2000 with all parts from White Post Restorations: New SS-sleeved master cylinder and front calipers, new brake booster/reservoir, new brakes lines on wheels, new clutch slave cylinder, new fluid, new pads, etc.

Original knockoff hub wire wheels are in excellent condition, with good chrome and very minimal pitting on them. Have 5 wheels total. Original knockoff hub hammer and jack. Radial tires have excellent tread, but are about 10 years old and probably should be replaced for high-speed interstate driving.

Beverly Hills canvas custom-fit car cover included.

It is extremely rare to find one of these cars that is still an original and is free of rust.
