Car was at auction 12/09
www.classicauctions.co.uk/lotdetail.php
Auction description:
Lot : 51
1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Roadster
SOLD for £18370
Registration No: ASW888C
Chassis No: 1E20370
Engine No: YE5247-9
CC: 4235
Colour: Red
Trim Colour: Black
MOT: Oct 2010
Finished in red with black leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, bodywork, paintwork and interior trim. Though, he notes that "the driver's door is a bit loose" and "the carpets are shabby". Beginning life as a fixed head coupe, `ASW 888C' is understood to have been professionally converted into a roadster circa thirty years ago. While more recent work has apparently included "an engine overhaul which was carried out in France during August 2005" (circa 4,000 miles ago) and the fitment of "a new clutch, flywheel and ring gear". Riding on wire wheels and sporting a bootlid-mounted luggage rack, this well travelled E-type is offered for sale with assorted invoices and MOT certificate valid until October 2010.

Here's a car that started out as a FHC, was converted to roadster and now is back as a FHC! It also now has a different engine number.
For sale by Silverstone Classics Auctions on 15/16th November 2013.
Registration: ASW 888C
Chassis Number: 1E20370
Engine Number: 7E76409
Number of cylinders: 6
CC: 4200
Year of Manufacture: 1965
Estimate (£): 52,000 - 60,000
This particular car is one of the first 4.2's introduced and drives better today than when first produced.
Last year, on the instruction of our vendor, it was completely nut and bolt restored by the Jaguar enthusiast and legend, Ray Parrott, and is infact the last car he has restored prior to retirement at the age of 80! Finished in it's original ultra smart colour combination of Gunmetal Grey with Black leather it received a bare metal repaint as well as a full engine rebuild with all new parts used where necessary. The total cost of all this work exceeded £80,000. (bills on file)
It was found to be "mechanically excellent" and needed very few new body panels or major engine components, so solid was the original car. Sensible upgrades were incorporated by Ray which included fitting a Getrag 5 speed gearbox, Coopercraft front brake upgrade, Series 2 rear brake upgrade, Polybushing all the suspension and a new radiator with additional cooling fans. The engine was fully rebuilt and had a new big valve head fitted, combined with a stainless 6 branch exhaust manifold system and a full stainless exhaust system. We strongly recommend that you Google the name 'Ray Parrot Jaguar' to understand the significance of who he is and the significance of the E-Type's that he has restored in his later life time, particularly the last ever E-Type built which is well documented by Classic and Sportscar magazine.
This restoration is to a high standard and the USP of this car is the special way that it drives today. A stunning highly collectable car, offered at a fraction of the cost to the current vendor.

Very interesting! It would appear the 12/09 auction had a gross error in the listing and somehow transposed info from an entirely different car. However, nothing in the Silverstone listing absolutely refutes its '09 listing. £80,000 is a lot of money to be spent on a car that was "mechanically excellent" and needed "few new body panels". Its a mystery. Perhaps an answer will appear here in time.
