Ebay item 12/9/07
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-E-Type-1967-Jaguar-E-Type-Roadster-PRESERV ...
Current bid $8,101 reserve not met, 4 bids, 9 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
I purchased this 1967 Series One E-Type Roadster in 1993 from the then 91 year old original owner, Mr Charles Berberat of Waterbury, Connecticut. At that time there were 32,960 original miles on the odometer. Mr Berberat purchased the Jag new in August of 1967 while in his 65th year, in celebration of his own retirement. It was never abused or neglected, kept in heated storage during its first 26 years, and sparingly driven on weekends each summer season.

These RARE late Series One 4.2 E-Types came with Open Headlights, and a head that was painted Silver instead of Gold. Never any rust, accident damage, or panel replacement. There are presently 36,043 original miles. It is of course matching numbers, and has a 3.54 rear axle. It was cared for over the years in such a meticulous manner that in every way it more resembles an original 18,000 mile E-Type, rather than the original 36,000 mile E-Type that it actually is. Ideal for collector, investor, or simply just driving pleasure.

Highly desirable original color combination. There has only been one re-paint of the Factory Original British Racing Green, which is still showing beautifully. The Suede Green interior is entirely original, and in extraordinary condition from the leather seats to the floor carpets! Even the original winged seatbelts and the passenger toeboard are still present, while in remarkable condition.

Although the Convertible Top has been replaced, and fitted with a beautiful black sunfast canvas top, I still do have the original 40 year old Convertible Top put aside. The original Convertible Top Frame still retains all of its original paint. The original Convertible Top Boot is simply amazing! All chrome is original and still beautiful. The original radio blanking plate was found underneath the passenger seat, probably tossed under there when the original radio was installed at the dealer over 40 years ago! The original owner once told me that he never even handled the steering wheel without wearing his leather driving gloves, and they are still in the cubby box today, just where he last left them back in 1993...

Original linen-lined tool wrap with all 22 original tools present. Original jack with bag. Original paperwork, manuals, brochures, and Jaguar Heritage Certificate. Original Windshield Wiper Blades. BUT MOST AMAZING OF ALL, this Jag still sits on its original 40 year old, albeit VERY worn, Dunlop 6.40 x 15, RS5 bi-ply whitewall tires still mounted on their original chrome wire wheels! And the spare has never even been on the ground!

Over the past 30 years I've personally logged over 250,000 miles driving E-Types. It has been and still remains a passionate hobby of mine. In my opinion, the Series One 4.2 litre is the best overall example of the marque. And without hesitation I can honestly say that the body along with the factory panel gaps on this E-Type are the finest that I have ever seen.

The following work has recently been performed...New battery, 6 shocks, exhaust, header tank, re-cored radiator, cooling hoses, and tune-up. Rebuilt calipers, hydraulics, and carbs. The engine, gearbox, and rear end, are all original. Runs strong, cool, and tight with no unusual noises, smoking, or leaks of any kind. And it even still retains all of its original Cheney hose clamps.

This E-Type presents a rare opportunity for the true collector. Here is an extremely well preserved original example, yet it is also a turn-key car. Although every effort was made by both the original owner and myself to preserve as much authenticity and originality as possible, emphasis has also been placed on keeping the Jag running and driving. And in turn, other than finally needing a new set of tires, it can be driven anywhere with complete confidence.

I've proudly owned this XKE for almost 15 years now. It was given a modest amount of regular use over the years, which has truly been of benefit to the car. Every day the classic car industry loses another car to the "restoration market". Cars with such Provenance as this constitute only an estimated 5% of the classic Jaguar market. This E-Type represents a commodity that will always be impervious to any market conditions.

I am neither a broker or dealer, rather just a long time Jaguar hobbyist/enthusiast. This is a Private Party sale. Clear Massachusetts, USA Title in my name. No excuses or stories.

Above auction ended at $72,100 reserve not met after 27 bids. Car appeared again on ebay 1/9/08 with a bid of $16k, no reserve and listed as being in Ohio. That is evidence of a scam

I purchased this car in late December, 2007. The later appearances of th car on EBay in January, 2008 and April, 2008 were outrageous scams, since the car was at those times, and continues to be, in my climate-controlled garage in Pennsylvania I have found the car to be exactly as represented by the legimate seller in the first EBay auction. It's truly a time warp, with just enough patina to make it interesting, but not so much as to detract from itas overall fantastic cosmetic condition. And, it drives as good as it looks, ie, essentially like a new car. A great E Type.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
