Lot #79945

This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was produced on December 6, 1965 and is finished in Carmen Red over a black leather interior. Power comes from a 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and equipment includes a black soft top, three SU carburetors, and chrome wire wheels. A cosmetic refurbishment was performed in the 1980s during prior ownership, and the selling dealer acquired the car in 2021 from its reported previous owner of 37 years. Work under current ownership is said to have included fluid changes, gasket and hose replacements, and servicing of the exhaust, brake, and suspension systems. This Series I XKE roadster is now offered in Canada with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, a spare steering wheel, service records, manufacturer’s literature, and a British Columbia registration document.

The body is said to have been refinished in its factory color of Carmen Red in during prior ownership. Features include a replacement folding soft top, split front and rear bumpers, glass headlight covers, and chrome windshield and door-top moldings.

Chrome 15” wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-offs and wear Michelin tires. A spare is stored in the rear compartment. The four-wheel disc brakes feature inboard rear rotors, and work under current ownership is said to have included adjustment of the inner tie rods and replacement of the brake master cylinder and brake booster, brake hoses, lower ball joints, radius arm mounts, upper ball joint boots, and steering rack boots.

Interior finishes include replacement black leather upholstery on the seats, door panels, and center console along with matching carpeting and a black dashboard. Equipment includes a heater, lap belts, and toggle switches for vehicle functions.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a collection of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles. True mileage is unknown.

The twin-cam 4.2L inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque when new. Service commissioned by the selling dealer is said to have include fluid changes along with replacement of the following components:

Valve cover gaskets & o-rings

Brass expansion tank

Cooling fan and all cooling hoses

Rear stainless exhaust resonators

Clutch slave cylinder

Cylinder-head stamping 7E 7064-9 matches the engine block stamp shown in the gallery as well as the engine number noted on the chassis identification plate and on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The 2021 Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate indicates a manufacture date in December 1965 and lists the original colors, equipment, and identification numbers, as well as distribution through Jaguar Cars of New York.
