Lot #74993

This 1974 Jaguar XKE roadster was purchased by the uncle of its current owner in 1983 and spent time in Ohio and Colorado before being relocated to California in 2018. The car is finished in red over tan leather with a black soft top, and power comes from a carbureted 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes 15″ wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a push-button radio, and a black boot cover. This Series III E-Type shows 51k miles and is now offered on dealer consignment in California with 1975 purchase paperwork, service records dating back to 1983, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Montana title.

The car was delivered new in Regency Red and features a black soft top, black rubber bumper overriders, and dual tailpipes. The selling dealer notes that some paintwork has been performed, and extensive checking is present in the finish. The snaps to connect the included black boot cover to the body are missing.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels utilize Jaguar knock-offs and are mounted with 215/70 Hankook Optimo H724 tires. The braking system utilizes multi-piston front calipers and inboard rear disc brakes. In 2016 the front suspension, rear subframe, and brakes were rebuilt.

The interior features bucket seats trimmed in tan leather upholstery, with matching door panels, carpeting, and trim. A British Leyland AM/FM push-button radio is positioned ahead of the shifter and was repaired in 2021. The radio was reinstalled in 2022, at which time the speakers were replaced. The shifter trim fits poorly, and some imperfections are noted in the rear trim pieces.

A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer complemented by a clock and a quartet of auxiliary gauges in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 51k miles, approximately 7k of which have been added since 1983.

The 5.3-liter V12 is equipped with quad Stromberg carburetors, and power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. After a period of the car being in storage, in 2016 the carburetors were disassembled, cleaned, and adjusted; the fluids were changed; the throttle linkage was adjusted; a PerTronix electronic ignition system was installed; and the valve-cover gaskets, crankshaft seal, ignition wires, coolant hoses, fuel hoses, exhaust mounts, and hub seals were replaced. The PerTronix module was replaced in 2020, the oil was changed in 2021, and the hood struts were replaced in 2022.

The engine stamping shown above matches the number listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, on the data plate affixed to the car, and on the included 1975 sales paperwork.

The selling dealer notes corrosion on the suspension.

Paperwork from Manhattan Auto of Rockville, Maryland indicates that the car was sold new on March 24, 1975 for a total delivered price of $10,198.24.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate indicates a build date of May 1, 1974 and lists serial numbers, color scheme, and delivery to New York.
