This 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster was sold new by Westlake Import Motors of Elmhurst, Illinois, and it was acquired by the seller’s father-in-law out of Utah in 2006. The car is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Refinished in green over tan leather, the car features a black soft top, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15” knock-off wire wheels, quadruple carburetors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an AM/FM radio. Service in February 2023 included replacing the fuel pump and the clutch hydraulic cylinders. This Series III E-Type is now offered in California by the seller on behalf of the late owner’s “family living trust” with 1975 warranty paperwork, an owner’s manual, manufacturer’s literature, Jaguar books, service records from current and prior ownership, a tool kit, and a Wyoming title in the name of the trust.
The car was refinished in green by British & European Car Service of Salt Lake City, Utah in 2006. The black soft top was replaced in 2000, and the bumper overriders have been removed. Other features include uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, and a power antenna. Scratches are noted on the clamshell hood behind the left-front wheel and on the rear panel, and the passenger-side quarter panel has a dent.
Wire-spoke 15″ wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with Dunlop Elite Seventy radial tires measuring 215/70. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The seating surfaces are upholstered in tan leather. Equipment includes color-coordinated door panels, a British Leyland–branded push-button AM/FM radio, a heater, manual windows, and a locking glovebox. The seller states that the air conditioning is inoperative due to a lack of refrigerant and wear is present near the roof’s latching mechanism.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. Auxiliary gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are positioned in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 22k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.
The 5.3-liter V12 was equipped from the factory with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 241 net horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. The fuel pump was replaced in February 2023. The seller notes an exhaust-manifold leak when the engine is cold and that the hoses and gaskets are aged.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch master and slave cylinders were reportedly replaced during a February 2023 service.
An owner’s manual, a tool kit, manufacturer’s literature, and Jaguar books will accompany the vehicle.
The Wyoming title lists “Exempt” under the Odometer heading.
