Ebay item 11/11/05
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-Low-Miles-1974-Jaguar-XKE-Roadster-Convert ...
Current bid $5,600.00 (Reserve not met), 6 bids, 9 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
Gorgeous 1974 Jaguar XKE Roadster Convertible, VIN# UEIS25335. The odometer reading is 49,891 and reflects actual miles. It has been donated to World Vision, and the proceeds from this sale will be used to support World Vision's many humanitarian programs, both here in the U.S. and world-wide. It is located in Federal Way, WA.

Description:
This Jaguar was purchased by our donor in the Seattle area in 1976, and was lightly used by him through 2003. Since then it has been garaged, but not used.

Condition:
The condition of this car can be fairly well determined by looking at the pictures. Basically, it is all original, and cosmetically it can be used as is, as it is in very good condition for its age. The body is in excellent condition (no rust or dents), as is the convertible top. The chrome is bright and clean. The leather seats exhibit some age creases. The only tear is in the back of the driver's seat (shown in the picture). The carpets and the rest of the interior fixtures are in quite good condition. There are some issues like the top of the post in which the driver's side window rolls up. Some of the rigid foam material and cover is damaged.

The V-12 engine starts and runs, and the car drives fine. It was serviced after we accepted it as a donation, but will definitely need a tune up and some carburation work, as it doesn't run as smoothly as it should.

While being driven to its present location, the wiring under the dash overheated. This was investigated, and resulted in the entire wiring harness associated with the problem being replaced with a new one, at a cost of over $4,000.

Issues:
The main cosmetic issue is the paint job, which isn't nearly as nice as it looks in the pictures. The paint is original, and is faded on the top of the hood and trunk (bonnet and boot?). This car deserves a new paint job, then will look spectacular. The convertible top is in excellent condition. However, there is a small area near the drivers door that is stained darker. It isn't noticeable until you stand close and look for it. The tires are good, and have lots of tread left, but they are old. The buyer should anticipate the need to go through all the onboard systems, suspension, brakes, etc. and make sure everything is functional and working properly. We have not done this.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
