This 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and was acquired by the seller in 2005. Subsequent work is noted to have involved rebuilding the transmission, adding an XJS-sourced limited-slip differential, installing quadruple SU carburetors, and refurbishing the suspension and brakes as well as repainting the body in black. The car features Biscuit leather interior upholstery along with a Robbins black cloth soft top, air conditioning, an AM/FM radio, power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and 15” knock-off wire wheels. This Series III E-Type is now offered with an operator’s handbook, a repair manual, a parts catalog, and a binder of service and refurbishment records as well as a collection of tools and a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.

European-market bumpers were added in 2006 and the side markers were removed prior to a repaint in black in 2021, according to the seller. A Robbins black cloth soft top was installed in 2019 and is accompanied by a color-coordinated top boot. Uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, and a power antenna are further details.

The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with Cooper tires measuring 205/70. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering as well as four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Work under current ownership is said to have involved refurbishing the suspension and installing a rear sway bar as well as replacing the power steering pump, brake booster, and brake master cylinder.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in Biscuit leather as well as color-coordinated door panels. The air conditioning system was modified to utilize R134a refrigerant in 2010, according to the seller. Further interior amenities include an AM/FM radio, a locking glovebox, and three-point seatbelts.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline accompanied by a 160-mph speedometer. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 63k miles, approximately 15k of which have been added under current ownership.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. An aluminum radiator with dual Kenlo electric puller fans was fitted in 2008, while Quadruple SU carburetors were installed in 2016. Further additions are said to include a Lucas ignition system, a 70-amp alternator, and a high-torque starter. The seller notes a leak from the rear main seal.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that was reportedly rebuilt in 2005. An aluminum flywheel is said to have been added in 2008 along with a 2.88:1 limited-slip differential sourced from a later-model Jaguar XJS.

A jack, a knock-off hammer, and other tools will accompany the car along with an owner’s manual, a repair manual, a parts catalog, spare parts, and a binder of service and refurbishment records.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
