This 1974 Jaguar XKE roadster was purchased new by the seller’s late father and has remained in the Chicago, Illinois area since that time. Partially refinished in the 1990s, the exterior is complemented by a black soft top and tan leather upholstery in the cockpit. Power comes from a numbers-matching 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and other equipment includes 15″ wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, Smiths instrumentation, and a Blaupunkt stereo. The transmission was rebuilt in 1998, and service in preparation for the sale included replacing the battery as well as rebuilding the quad Stromberg carburetors and the fuel pump. This E-Type is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of his father’s estate with a boot cover, a jack, a hammer and knock-off tool, partial records dating to the 1990s, a parts catalog, an owner’s manual, and an Illinois title.
During the winter of 1997 the hood and the passenger-side fender and door as well as a portion of the rear quarter panel and trunk are said to have been refinished in Green Sand, which is complemented by a black convertible top. Some of the light fixtures were replaced at that time, and the seller notes imperfections and chips in the paintwork around the car as well as rust in the rocker panels and behind the rear wheels.
Chrome-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 205/70 Avon Turbospeed CR28 tires. Each corner is equipped with disc brakes, with the rear axle featuring an inboard set.
Tan leather upholstery covers the seating surfaces, and tan carpeting extends from the footwells and transmission tunnel to the rear cargo shelves. Equipment includes floor mats, retracting three-point seatbelts, and a Blaupunkt Frankfurt AM/FM stereo.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer as well as an analog clock and auxiliary gauges in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows just under 30k miles; emissions-testing paperwork from 1996 reveals that the odometer displayed 28k miles at that time.
The 5.3-liter V12 was factory rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque. The cooling system was overhauled in 1997, and work in 2021 included rebuilding the quad Stromberg carburetors, rebuilding the fuel pump, and replacing the battery.
The engine-block stamping reads 7S15238LA, which matches the number shown on the data plate affixed to the car.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission, which was rebuilt in 1998. Corrosion is noted on some underbody components.
A boot cover, a jack, a hammer, and a knock-off tool will accompany the car along with a spare wheel and Dunlop whitewall tire stored in the trunk.
A number of receipts dating back to the 1990s, an owner’s manual, and a parts catalog also will be included. It is noted that the VIN on the handwritten, 1975-issued title lacks a letter W that is at the end of the car’s chassis number.
