Sold on eBay 3/3/2004 for $27,478

Offered is a one owner factory original Regency Red (dark red) with Biscuit (tan) interior 1974 XKE V12 Roadster with 53,330 original miles. Its options include a 4 speed transmission, air conditioning and chrome wire wheels. Purchased on January 10, 1975 from British Leyland dealership, Ladd Motors Inc., Lebanon, Pennsylvania. (The Ladd Motors dealership sticker is still on the rear bumper!) The car was registered in Pennsylvania on August 4, 1986 with documentation showing an odometer reading of 53,000 miles. Shortly thereafter it was placed in storage where it sat until just recently. The odometer now shows just 53,330 miles having been removed from storage last month.
The Roadster just underwent a full servicing which included the following work:
-Drained and flushed the gas tank
-Flushed radiator and cooling system
-Installed new fuel filters
-Rebuilt duel fuel pump (rebuilding service provided by Joe Curto Inc.)
-Interstate battery
-Removed and completely rebuilt all four carburetors with all new components including new jets and diaphragms (air cleaners are included, removed for synchronizing)
-Tune-up included a new ignition pick up module and new distributor cap

The body's condition is very solid, having been stored inside its entire life. It has excellent door and deck lid fit. Someone attempted to pry open the bonnet at one time (minor cosmetic repair needed) – please see picture. The car idles beautifully and runs cool and strong with excellent oil pressure above 50 lbs., when hot. The transmission is buttery smooth with a very responsive clutch and strong brakes. It was re-painted its factory original Regency Red sometime in the mid 80s and the paint is still very presentable. Seats have had covers put on them at one time and the driver’s front floor mat is missing. The E Type has its original British Leyland AM/FM radio and an excellent dash pad. Top was fitted several years ago, but window has yellowed.

Not a concours champ, but certainly an extremely presentable and dependable driver that is very solid throughout (with a very low reserve). The Roadster has been well sorted mechanically and is ideal for collector, investor or simply driving pleasure.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
