    Ebay item 4/1/09

Opening bid $19,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 9 days left in auction. Buy it now price $32,000.

    Sellers description:
1974 Jaguar XKE V-12 Roadster Series III, 4-speed, AC, 34,000 original miles, mostly original silver gray finish, rust free in original un-restored condition, all the right features. I have owned this auto for over 15 years; it was purchased from a salt free environment. Car was always garage kept. It had 29,000 original miles when I purchased. I wanted an original low mileage weekend driver that I could afford and enjoy. I wanted this vehicle to be of investment grade and I had a strict list of requirements that would allow the car to escalate and appreciate in value over time. So I spent over two years looking at 1974 Jags through out the United States and Canada to find the “right car” for me. I made a lot of wasted trips as many people misrepresented or overstated their cars. I finally found “the car” that met my criteria: (1) a 1974 that was not all rusted out, (2) Series III Roadster, no coupes. (3) 4 speed manual (no auto), (4) Numbers matching, (5) Low mileage, (6) Factory original wire wheels, (7) preferred a desirable color combination -the elegant silver gray finish with blue hides. (8) AC, PS and PB.

This car is a true un-restored survivor, close to 100 % original through out, always serviced by a Jag dealer. The paint has been touched up and spotted in on a few panels over the years but retains much of the factory original paint. Honestly, the car is presentable and has been enjoyed and driven as is, but is due for its 1st complete re-spray. Factory original decals and labels are still on the car. Keep in mind this car is a driver that has all of the important options, a rust free body, and mechanically sound, etc. and is not being represented as a show car or $125,000 trailer queen. However, it certainly could be economically taken to that level, if you chose to do so in the future, it is priced to sell fast.

Mechanically: The car has been well maintained, never neglected, always garage kept, but has not been started or driven in the past two years. When parked 3 years ago, everything worked fine; lights, gauges, electrical systems, wipers, ac, heater, etc. No known problems. The motor has been turned over every 4-6 month to keep rust free, and the entire car has been moved to protect the tires from flat spots, etc. The radio works, but the antennae mast is broken. The car still has the original spare wire wheel with tool kit. It may need some minor tinkering before starting, i.e. new battery, I would also recommend having a mechanic drain the old fuel from carbs and fuel system, and add fresh fuel, to avoid any problems before starting. Car was running fine when parked in 2006. There is a minor exhaust leak, but the exhaust system does not need replacing. The factory original wire wheels have a brand new set of $2,000 high speed Pirelli radials, with less than 1000 miles on them. This car will make a great car to drive on sunny days, or a fantastic car to upgrade to a concourse quality show car. It has unlimited potential, or just enjoy it now.

Interior: Almost 98% original, un-restored, complete blue leather interior, with minimal wear for a car of its age with 34,000 miles. No major rips, cracks or tears through the leather, dash or any other panels. The interior is in above average condition with no major flaws. Condition is at least 80% of new, but the car could use some cosmetic detailing.

Body: Body is very straight, and does not have the typical rust that plagues most Jaguars. There may be a couple of almost unnoticeable dings. There was minor parking lot damage to rear quarter panel areas, behind tire and down low, it appears as if someone bumped into something down low, and was repaired before I purchased the car. Initial damage was a scrape and was quite minimal. Overall, body is very good, however, the paint is marginal, and has lost its luster over the years-may be able to be wheeled out.

90-95% of the body is laser straight and undamaged. Rocker panel under battery box has a dent that can easily be repaired because there is no rust. In and around the front bonnet wheel openings they are 100% rust free even the thin sheet metal lips in wheel openings are rust free and in pristine original condition.

If you want a very original unmolested quality car that won’t break you to buy, this car is for you. It is a very affordable car, and is in very good un-restored condition. I do not feel chrome needs much attention, keep it original.

    Matching Numbers, very original car
    Runs and Drives Beautifully

    Recent Service:
    · Rebuilt Transmission
    · New Brake Master Cylinders
    · Rebuilt all 4 Carbs
    · New plugs and wires
    · New Fuel Pump
    New Brakes

This Jaguar is truly a beautiful driver. It's also a great candidate for a restoration because of its sound mechanical condition. As you can see from some of the pictures it needs some cosmetic work. We bought this car 3 years ago with the intent to restore it but we've only restored it mechanically. The paint is old and the right rear quarter has a little bit of rust but not bad. The top needs replacing. The wheels are in great shape. The interior appears to be worn but it's really just a little weathered.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
