Dana Mecum auction, 11/6/1998, Arlington IL lot #62. Sports Car Market report:

"Chrome wire wheels, 4-speed, late stereo, no A/C. 32,624 miles. Good older paint, interior and chrome on a sympathetic 10 year old restoration to showroom condition that's still in good condition. It will reward a new owner's time and attention."

Beautiful and correct. Restored with all originality. The soft top is black but was delivered with a tan vinyl top. Very well preserved and a very strong runner. The 4 speed manual without a/c makes this jaguar quicker than most series 3's. Jaguar Heritage certificate confirms all numbers and original paint color and interior color.

Current bid $45,650, reserve met, 18 bids, 1 day left in auction.

Sellers description:
Original Exterior and Interior Colors
Matching Numbers with 37385 original miles
Original color ,signal red with biscuit interior. The mileage of 37385 , I believe to be original. The 3 owners previous to my ownership were true collectors and rarely actually drove the car. I purchased the car for its beauty and original pedigree but mainly I fell in love with its tremendous drivability and handling. In the 7 months I've owned the car I've driven it 2 thousand miles on mainly beautiful country roads in Dutchess County ,New York. The only reason the car is for sale at all is because a fellow Jaguar Club member has made his stunning Series 1 E-Type available for my purchase. The original owner was not recorded on the Jaguar Heritage Certificate and is not known to me ,however, I have a history of all the other 3 previous owners, ownership dates, a copy of two of the owners State Titles and other car history documentation which will be given to the new owner. e.g.

7/16/88 Colorado mileage at purchase 30,479
11/16/98 Illinois mileage at purchase 32,624
2/10/02 New Jersey mileage at purchase 33,363
2/15/08 New York [my purchase] mileage at purchase 35,375

Current Mileage 37,385

The car was restored in the early 90's in Colorado, always garaged ,seldom driven and still in beautiful condition. From my personal inspection and opinion,[I've owned 7 e-types over the last 25 years] I believe the car was rust free and in good condition prior to the restoration because all the panels ,floors etc. appear original.e.g the frame rails, under the bonnet ,under the rugs and the spare wheel well are all perfectly solid and have the original signal red paint. Most of the original decals ,markings and coverings are still present under the bonnet and the trunk or boot. Appears the car has had one repaint in its original color ,signal red with biscuit interior.

The car drives , handles and is solid like new and everything works as it should. [The clock doesn't work but I purchased a new original from Welsh Jaguar in Ohio which will be given to the new owner]. The old clock works intermittently and I didn't feel it warranted changing it at this time. The radio is not original but works well, and is missing a plastic knob which I haven't gotten around to replacing. I do not have the original radio. The jack, vinyl pouch ,hammer and hub tool are present. The original owners manual and separate major service manual are included. All five tires and tubes are brand new plus all fluids ,engine and carburator timing have recently been done .The car is truly turn key and is ready to be enjoyed, driven or shown by its new owner. The car is stunning in overall appearance and performance. You will not be disappointed.

The car has no dents, rust or scratches except for some very minor nicks from normal driving. The interior is extremely beautiful with very little wear evident. The paint is beautiful and very shinny ,an 8 1/2 -9 out of 10 in my opinion. The car rides and shifts like a new car and has a very solid feel. The soft top is in very good condition with some wear evident. The plastic rear window is clear with no yellowing evident. The glass area's are all original and in very good condition,no cracks or delamination anywhere . The engine and exhaust sound terrific . Good oil pressure ,no smoke no leaks.

Included in the sale:
Original drivers handbook
v12 shop manual
car cover
previous owner history,names,state titles etc.
jack,vinyl pouch ,hammer,hub tool
Heritage trust certificate
New clock from Welsh Jaguar

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
