    Auction description:
Sale 14267 - Important Collectors' Motor Cars and Fine Automobilia, 4 Dec 2006
    Olympia, London
    Lot No: 674
1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Vicarage Roadster
    Registration no. XSU 153
    Chassis no. UD1S74551BW
    Engine no. 7510310LA
Sold for £21,000 plus Premium and tax

Originally a left-hand drive Coupé, this Series III E-Type Roadster was totally rebuilt and upgraded by Vicarage to the vendor’s personal order in 1990. At that time the list price for Vicarage’s ‘Standard Specification’ Series III Roadster was £85,000, which included wire wheels, mohair hood, tinted glass, head restraints, stainless-steel exhaust system, Michelin XWX tyres and conversion to right-hand drive, while options specified – air conditioning, Alpine CD stereo system and two-passenger rear seating – added a further £6,500 to this car’s price for a grand total of £91,500 (ex-VAT). Finished in Rolls-Royce Cobalt Blue metallic with beige leather interior, the car has the popular automatic transmission option and comes with soft-top and factory hardtop. Further specification highlights include central locking, remote alarm and a new leather interior, the latter installed within the past two years. Some 31,500-or-so miles have been covered since completion and the car comes with full service history with Vicarage and marque specialist Martin Hall (Bird’s Automobiles). Fastidiously maintained with no expense spared and offered for sale at a fraction of its build costs, this unique Series III E-Type Roadster possesses an MoT valid until June 2007 and comes with Swansea V5.

    Auction description:
CarFest North Pride & Joy Auction
    1973 Jaguar E-Type S3 V12 Roadster Auto
    Lot No.: TBA
    Registration: XSU 153
    Chassis Number: UD1S74551
    Engine Number: 7S10310LA
    Number of cylinders: V12
    CC: 5300
    Year of Manufacture: 1973
    Estimate (£): 40,000 - 60,000
    No Reserve

This car was built by the world renowned Jaguar restorers, Vicarage Classic Car Company, from Bridgnorth in Shropshire in the early 1990's. Vicarage were famous for updating and re-engineering cars to modern standards, offering superior build quality, improved driving responses and greater security than the original. Ordered by a Mr Pollock of Aspen Oil Ltd. who then told Vicarage that he wanted a unique specification car. His desire was to combine the convenience of rear seats offered by the 2 plus 2, with the stunning looks of the Roadster. At the same time he wanted modern upgrades to make the car more user-friendly and specifically he wanted the car finished in Rolls Royce Cobalt Blue with a beige leather interior.

So, at a cost of an eye-watering £91,568 in 1990, he ordered this car which was then converted from a left hand drive 2 plus 2 V12 into a right hand drive V12 Roadster, allowing for the extra seats in the back and then he added the following specification:

    Wire wheels
    Mohair Hood
    Tinted glass
    Michelin XWX lower profile tyres
    Stainless steel exhaust
    Automatic transmission B/W 65/66
    Air conditioning
    Alpine stereo system
    'High Performance' engine
Oil cooler and auxiliary engine cooling fan
    Central locking and alarm
    Wing mirrors
    Lamb's wool over-rug
    Wiper Dwell
    Bespoke beige leather interior

The car took Vicarage nine months to complete and since then just 32,000 miles have been covered. It has since been fastidiously maintained by both Martin Hall of Birds Automobiles and more recently, Nick Goldthorp, of CMC Ltd in Bridgnorth.

In fact, the most recent bill (£7,000) from CMC confirms that work to the steering, brakes and a full service were carried out in August 2012, along with a new set of rear discs and pads fitted in November 2012 by Guy Salmon Jaguar of Northampton.

This car is truly stunning to look at and drive today. Built by one of the best specialists in the world it is now ready to be enjoyed by the luckiest of new owners. This car is featured in the book "E TYPE JAGUAR" by Andrew Morland, where no less than 7 pages are dedicated to show the unique beauty of this car.(A copy of the book is included in the comprehensive history file)
ALL proceeds from this Lot, including the purchase price of the car and all auction commissions, will be entirely donated to BBC Children in Need by the extremely generous vendor. Wow - what a unique and completely exciting opportunity!

Sold by the Classic and Sports Car Centre of Malton in September 2020. Abbreviated and amended seller's description below.
    www.classicandsportscar.ltd.uk/jaguar-e-type-series-iii-v12-vicarage-roadster/cl ...

We are delighted to offer this exceptional V12 Vicarage Roadster. Supplied by Vicarage to the owner of a London oil company for £103,000. The modified E Type was supplied with standard equipment including wire wheels, tinted glass, Michelin tyres, head restraints, stainless steel exhaust system, automatic transmission and optional extras including air conditioning, 2+2 seating, Alpine stereo, central locking and Cobalt Blue paintwork with beige interior. A unique specification combining the convenience of rear seats offered by the 2+2 with the stunning looks of the roadster and modern upgrades to make the ultimate Roadster.

The V12's London based owner returned the car to Vicarage in Wolverhampton for regular servicing in its early years. Throughout the late 1990s and 2000s it was maintained by Birds Automobiles in London. By 2008 the E Type had covered 32,000 miles since the build when it was sold by a London dealership. A further 3,000 miles was covered when £8,500 was spent, £1,115 at Jaguar Northampton and £7,500 at CMC Bridgnorth.

In 2013 at 36,000 miles it was sold at Silverstone Auctions Car-Fest to its most recent owner. In 2016 he spent £25,000 having the E Type repainted and re-trimmed in dark blue leather witha new mohair roof with mechanical and electrical work. He owned the car for 7 years and covered 6.000 miles. The ultimate long distance tourer, it is strong, powerful and offers fantastic performance.
