Lot #116063

This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III 2+2 is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Acquired by the seller in 2013, the car is finished in red over tan leather. Features include four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15” knock-off wire wheels, quadruple carburetors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a cassette stereo. Work under current ownership included a refresh on the quadruple carburetors, brakes, and front end suspension along with a replacement clutch, fuel pump, and aluminum radiator. This Series III E-Type is now offered in New Hampshire on dealer consignment with the owner’s manual, service records, a jack, spare parts, and a clean Maine title.

The selling dealer notes that the car was refinished in its current shade of red under prior ownership. Equipment includes uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, pop-out rear quarter windows, and a power antenna. Rust is noted on the bonnet, under the trunk areas, and around the rear wheel arches. Paint imperfections around the car are visible.

Wire-spoke 15″ wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and mounted with 205/70 Vredestine Sprint Classic tires. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The selling dealer states the current owner installed a replacement master cylinder, brake calipers, and brake lines and hoses along with front tie rod ends, ball joints, and bushings.

The 2+2 cabin was re-trimmed in Biscuit leather prior to the current owner’s acquisition, per the selling dealer. Interior appointments include a Blaupunkt cassette stereo, wind-up windows, and a locking glovebox. The air conditioning, radio, and power antenna do not work.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 84k miles, approximately 7k of which were added under current ownership.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory rated at 241 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque. A PerTronix ignition and high-torque starter are reportedly equipped. The selling dealer states that the engine compartment was refinished under current ownership with overhauls of the distributor and quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, replacement of the fuel pump, installation of an aftermarket high-capacity aluminum radiator and fan temperature switch, and removal of some pollution controls.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch was replaced under current ownership per the selling dealer.

An owner’s manual, a repair manual, records, a jack, and spare parts are included in the sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
