Ebay item 5/13/17
www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Jaguar-E-Type-Series-III-convertible-roadster-/30231494977 ...
Current bid US $38,100 reserve not met 7 bids 9 days left in auction, seller jeffjag01, 60k miles.

Sellers description:
Options: Air Conditioning / 4 speed trans. /Chrome wire wheels/ Chrome luggage rack / am-fm radio
Original Sable/Cinnamon color combination. Sable is a classic shade of brown that seems to change with the light.

This is a matching numbers, rust free, never been hit beauty. I have been the second owner for 28 years. I have kept her in original condition, except to have the engine de smogged. The V12 is happier pumping out more Horsepower, more MPGs, with a cleaner look that also makes it easier to maintain. Engine and drive train work as new and sound great. Also put in a Crane Fireball ignition amplifier when the Lucas Opus amplifier died. With these changes, I think the V12 is now closer to 300 HP than 283 originally claimed.

In Texas, there is a safety inspection before registration renewal. So all the lights, flashers, brakes, horns and wipers work as she passed her inspection. All gauges and their lights work as well of coarse.
AC blower comes on but compressor needs to be charged up with refrigerant. I rarely drove her with the top up, or in weather that would need the top up, so didn't need/use air conditioner.

The paint is original and shows its 44 years with Alligator checking, scratches and chips but still shines and turns heads everywhere she goes. The Chrome is EX -VG+
condition except the right side head light surround has dull spots (2 pcs). I have new correct chin scoop and chrome trim, new upper and lower chrome grill surrounds.
The ones on their now look good but have a ding or two. These all go with the her. Also all the smog parts removed and "stainless steel rain gutters" go with her too. I removed the sun visors to make driving video, they are back on now.

I've averaged less than 250 miles per year on my Jag. So most work done should be measured in miles, not years, as to ware. Aside from the Crane ignition amp, everything was done to O.E. specs with O.E. parts.

Work done in last 5,000 miles (1990-2017) front to rear:

Radiator re cored and new header tank 2004; New ball joints upper and lower 2014; Rebuilt L.F. brake caliper, new L+R brake hoses and pads 2004; New Boge (OE) front shocks 2016; New water pump 2016; Carbs rebuilt 2005, cleaned and adjusted 2016; Cam cover gaskets 2015; New Crane ignition system 2013; New coil cap and rotor 2013; new plugs and wires 2015; New exhaust front to back 1990, new manifold to exhaust sys. gaskets 2006; 4 new Koni shocks for rear 1990 ( 5K miles on 'em); Otter switch (Turns cooling fans auto on/off) 2015; Interior: everything was replaced 1995, except for dash and A pillars. that includes the trunk. As car was always garage kept, it still looks great (see photos)
Regular oil changes; changed all fluids over the years
No chips or cracks in glass
Tires have 85+% tread left
Tear on convertible top by snap at drivers door (see photo)other wise top and rear window VG.
Speedometer cable waves, sometimes a little sometimes more. I was told it needs to come out, get lubed and put back in. Had her more than 10 years when this started. I knew how fast she's going by Tach.
Original paint has chips, alligator cracks but shines. Some call it original patina and want it/love it. Others want to paint it.

I have many more photos (ebays 24 not enough) of engine, interior, trunk with panels removed to show no rust, many shots under car to show she's solid.

Opening bid $75,000 reserve not met 0 bids, seller davedavid12321, 63k miles, car now said to be in North Canton, Ohio, previously Corpus Christi, TX

Seller's description:

1973 Jaguar XKE 5.3-liter V12, Series III, Roadster, re-conditioned 4-Speed, Sable exterior restored with Biscuit interior restored. I also have the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and 4 folders with support paperwork. This car was purchased new at Continental Car Motor in St. Louis, MO, Sold to Frank Miceli on June 19, 1973 (Invoice Available).

Then the car was sold (16 years later) to Jeff Prentice on 5/5/89, Jeff was the second owner (28 years), paperwork and service invoices available. I purchased the car on 7/12/2017, started the restoration in 2019. The goal of this restoration was to replace or repair the total car top to bottom. The engine, all the glass, dashboard, seats, carpet, and transmission were removed from the car.

The Sable paint is a very rare color, people look at the color and remark on the quality and shine. I have the Protocols that were followed to paint this 1973 Jaguar. *Strip all old paint down to metal, 80 Grit soft pad, 80 Grit, DA, sandblast as needed, weld few areas as needed, epoxy prime bare steel areas, body shaping and adjustments as needed, polyester primer, 2 coats, block sand total car, polyester primer, 2 coats, final sanding, polyester color, 5 coats, polyurethane clear, 3 coats, wet sand and buff, then polish.

All the bumpers were chromed, new muffler system, quad central exhaust outlets, new brakes/shocks, 5 new wire wheels with 5 new tires, original car jack, lead mallet/hub cap, all the lights were repaired or replaced. The exterior paint is Sable (matching factory color) and leather interior is Biscuit, with a matching new convertible top and boot cover. Koolmat insulation under the carpet, makes the car run quieter and cooler. Remove all the old undercoating and respray the bottom with high quality undercoating, we did not undercoat the last 5 feet, panted this area in Sable.

Complete replacement of all rubber inside, engine compartment and outside the car. The following were original new replacements; any part connected to the brakes and steering, Car filters, radiator, dual fans, fuel pump, distributor with all new wires, water pump and cap. All the 4 carbonators were removed, rebuilt and adjusted. All the gauges are original and work, including the clock. Gas tank was removed and cleaned in and out, including new factory battery. The V12 engine had a 145 to 158 compression test, I was told the numbers are the same as a brand new engine. The engine does not burn any oil and only a few drops of oil out the rear-end. My parts supplier Welsh Enterprises, gave me new FSU-E3 parts ($335.00) for the front end as a gift. The front end is ok, but soon the the parts will help the front end ride smother.

All three owners stored this Jaguar in a nice clean and dry area. All the Jaguar fluids have been changed, based on mileage. All the glass in the car are original from the factory and in good shape. I also will include a parts CD of the total car.

This 1973 Jaguar XKE is a Series III roadster that was built on November 20, 1972 and sold new at Continental Cars of St. Louis, Missouri. The car was acquired by the current owner around five years ago, and subsequent work included a bare-metal repaint in Sable, a reseal of the 5.3-liter V12, and the installation of a replacement four-speed manual transmission. Features include a tan soft top, four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rears, and polished knock-off wire wheels. The front ball joints and suspension bushings were replaced earlier in 2022. This XKE is being offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with records dating back to 1989, manufacturer’s literature, a Production Record Trace certificate, and a clean Ohio title.

Finished from the factory in Sable, the car received a bare-metal repaint in 2018 from Advanced Auto Body of Canton, Ohio following replacement of the lower scoop and patches of the nose, passenger-side rear quarter panel, rear tail panel, rear driver-side belly pan, and holes around the exhaust mounts. The brightwork is said to have been re-plated at that time, and a repalcement tan soft top was also installed that year. Noted flaws include paint chips on the nose and behind the driver-side rear wheel, marks on the windshield, and pitting on the soft top strip and driver-side mirror. The seller notes that the passenger-side door glass is not aligned perfectly and the trunk latch was replaced in March 2022.

Polished 15” wire wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and mounted with 205/70 Cooper Trendsetter whitewall tires. A full-size spare is found in the trunk. Braking is through four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears, and replacement primary and secondary cylinders were installed during current ownership. Areas of corrosion on a handful of wheel spoke studs are noted by the seller, along with wear on the hubs. The steering rack, power steering pump, and tie rod ends were replaced in July 2018 by Layland Motors Auto Repair of Canton, Ohio, while the front ball joints and suspension bushings were replaced in March 2022. The parking brake does not function properly.

The cabin was upholstered in Biscuit leather from the factory and was reportedly re-trimmed in the early 1990s. Kool Kat sound deadening material was added in 2018, and additional features include a center console, an analog clock, rocker switches for vehicle functions, replacement sun visors, and lap belts. Two replacement speakers have been installed, though the AM/FM radio is inoperable. The defroster is said to be weak, the air conditioning does not blow cold, the driver’s seat belt retracts slowly, and the seller notes wear on the soft top frame, fading on the rear storage area carpet, and evidence of repair to the driver’s seat edge along with wear on the bolster. A pair of Jaguar-branded rubber floor mats will accompany the vehicle.

A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and a suite of auxiliary gauges in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 63k miles, around 2k of which have been added during current ownership. The seller notes that the instrumentation has been cleaned during current ownership.

The 5.3-liter V12 was re-sealed by Layland Auto Repair of Canton, Ohio in 2018 and fitted with a replacement radiator, battery, spark plugs, fuel filters, expansion tank, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. The starter was repaired at that time, while maintenance in March 2022 included a repair of a coolant leak and replacement of the driver-side thermostat. The water pump and fan belts were replaced in 2016.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission that was reportedly replaced in 2018. The floors and frame tubes were repaired at the time of the repaint, and undercoating was applied to the chassis. The seller notes a leak from the rear differential. Additional underbody photos are provided in the gallery below, along with a handful of photos taken during various stages of the repaint and records dating back to 1989.

The Production Record Trace certificate lists the factory colors and shows a completion date of November 20, 1972.

The original invoice lists factory equipment and a total price of $9,737.
