Vehicle Description
I am a 1972 Jaguar XKE Series 3, 2+2. I was raised in the south where they never salt the roads (it does rain a lot here though). My V12 engine was destroyed by knocking a hole in the oil pan. My owner was faced with a financial dilemma. After careful consideration it was decided to install a 5.7L Chevrolet V8 that was blueprinted and balanced in a mild tune (for nice dependable, economical and powerful motivation) and 700R4 overdrive transmission (for a relaxed highway drive). This financial decision allowed my owner to treat me with an extreme makeover.
I was carefully disassembled piece by piece and put in carefully marked boxes and plastic bags. He didn’t stop until I was completely disassembled and the frame was separated from the body. I was media blasted and treated to an epoxy primer finish. My light floor and trunk rust was repaired with weld-in patches. Since I had never been in a serious accident there was not much other bodywork needed.
My front suspension was treated with new ball joints, tie rod ends, and upper and lower control arm bushings (only because the rubber boots were deteriorated). My differential carrier bearings and pinion seal were replaced. I got stainless steel caliper pistons when all 4 calipers were rebuilt, and new rear rotors and parking brake pads. My brake master cylinder and servo unit were rebuilt. All my brake hoses were replaced and now I stop very straight and fast.
To stand out from the crowd ,the old Jaguar instruments were replaced with new Autometer gauges and the dash reworked with new switches and real wood center dash and console.
I am finished in dark red urethane, and my new interior is biscuit. I have a completely new air conditioning system and JVC mp3 player.
I got a new windshield (tinted so I don’t have to squint) and all new weatherstripping. I got a lot of new chrome also.
When my owner got through with all this work he drove me for a while and discovered a small noise coming from the rear (probably a rear wheel bearing or half-shaft u-joint) and just realized he was very, very busy and didn’t have the time to fix it. He also will not install a heater for me. It seems he has moved on to other projects and neglects me. I am really disgusted and want a new owner to fix these little things and drive me with pride.
Although I’m not perfect - I am very, very nice. I have lots of energy and really purr when driven. I need some one to take me for a good ride.
