This 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III roadster was purchased new at Overseas Motor Company of Houston, Texas and was acquired by the seller in 1981 from the original owner. The car is said to have been stored for the last 19 years and has not been driven since. It is finished in dark blue over light blue leather and is equipped with a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Features include a black soft top, a top boot, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15” knock-off wire wheels, quadruple carburetors, an AM/FM radio, and air conditioning. This Series III E-Type is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, a window sticker, manufacturer’s literature, spare parts, a tonneau cover, and a clean Alaska title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in Dark Blue and features a black soft top, a matching top boot, uncovered headlights, a forward-hinged louvered hood, US-spec bumpers, quadruple exhaust outlets, and a power antenna. Paint checking is noted on the hood and the seller states that a dent on the left rear quarter panel was repaired under current ownership. Various scratches, dings, and blemishes can be seen in close-up photos. A tonneau cover accompanies the vehicle.
The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are mounted with 185-series Michelin X Radial redline tires. The Series III E-Type was factory equipped with power steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in Light Blue leather as well as color-coordinated door panels and darker blue carpets. Interior amenities include an alarm system, AM/FM radio, wind-up windows, and air conditioning. The seller notes discoloration on the seats, foam degradation on the headrests, and wear on the carpets. A pair of black Jaguar branded rubber floor mats will accompany the vehicle along with spare carpet mats.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock along with auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 31k miles, approximately 6,200 of which were added under current ownership.
The 5.3-liter V12 was factory equipped with quadruple Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was rated at 314 horsepower and 349 lb-ft of torque when new. According to the seller, the Opus ignition amplifier and distributor have been replaced and relocated. The car has reportedly been stored and not started in the last 19 years.
The car is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller notes corrosion on the air scoop.
The initial window sticker lists factory options and a total suggested retail price of $9,302.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate lists the factory colors and serial numbers, along with a build date of March 2, 1972.
