This 1971 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster was first delivered to Rice Auto Sales in Greensboro, North Carolina, which sold it to Town & Country Ford in Charlotte in December 1970. The car was refurbished in the early 1990s and was purchased by the seller in June 2017 from the previous owner, who is said to have leased it from Town & Country Ford before purchasing it. The car is finished in beige with a black soft top over a tan leather interior and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Additional features include dual carburetors, 15″ wire wheels, a black boot cover, an AM/FM radio, and air conditioning. Service performed in 2020 reportedly included a tune-up, carburetor refurbishment, valve cover gasket replacement, and new tires. This XKE roadster is now offered with service records, manufacturer’s literature, an owner’s pamphlet, a tool kit, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The car is said to have been refinished in beige in the early 1990s. The black convertible top is paired with a black boot cover, and additional features include chrome-finished bumpers with guards, as well as a dual-exit exhaust.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels wear Coker redline tires said to have been mounted in 2020. The car is equipped with power steering.
The interior is said to have been refurbished in 1991 and features individual bucket seats with tan leather upholstery and a matching tan console, carpets, and door panels, as well as a black dashboard. Amenities include air conditioning and an AM/FM radio. The seller recommends that the air-conditioning system be recharged.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of factory Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges that extend across the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows just over 83k miles, approximately 500 of which were added by the seller.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual carburetors and was refurbished in 1992 by Jenkins & Jenkins in Charlotte, North Carolina. Service performed in 2020 is said to include a tune-up, refurbishment of the carburetors, and replacement of the valve cover gasket.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. A stainless steel exhaust system is fitted. The seller recommends the replacement of the differential seals.
A black boot cover, a tool kit, service records, an owner’s pamphlet, and manufacturer’s literature are included in the sale.

1971 Jaguar XKE MKII one owner 46years
This beautiful car was leased by a doctor in Charlotte NC through Town and Country Ford in 1971. The tax laws during that time allowed professionals to shield income by doing this. At the end of the two year lease the doctor purchased the car from the leasing company. During his ownership the car was meticulously taken care of by several shops in Charlotte NC and he kept excellent records, which will be provided with the car. It was obviously his pet and no expense was spared.
During the 1990’s Jenkins and Jenkins rebuilt the engine, it now has about 12,000 miles on it. During that time the Charlotte Airport condemned the land under the that shop for expansion of the airport. One of the supervisors left and started another high end maintenance shop in the Charlotte area. The doctor followed and in 2017 sold the Jaguar to him. In February of 2021 I bought the car.
Two things that I did not count on when I bought the car. Covid lasting this long and my arthritis advancing this fast. I have a very hard time getting in and out of the car and so at 82 years of age I find myself wanting to sell it. I fully expect that in my time I will see it go across the podium at Pebble Beach or Amelia Island.
The car has never been restored. It lives in my air conditioned heated garage and has obviously never been north of the Mason Dixon line. It is stunning to look at, it has always been kept that way. Repainted in the 1990’s in the original color and reupholstered in Tan Leather. It now has 83,000 miles on it, with the engine being overhauled about 12,000 miles ago. Delivered new with air conditioning, power steering and power brakes it is a delight to drive. This is, obviously, supported by the records included with the car.
Recent maintenance includes new battery, new clutch slave cylinder, air conditioning service, oil change and filter.
